Blackpink and Twice are the top two kpop girl groups of all time.

  • As the title says both blackpink and twice are the top two kpop girl groups of all time in success, popularity and fandom wise. I don't see any 4th gen girl groups or even 5th gen girl groups will able to outgrow them in future because the pace is high to match the above groups and the interesting thing is both groups still growing in their 10th year.

Yoy ain't gonna say they don't fit when their literal debut song is in Korean

    Nugu?

  • You'll think different after reading about 1st gen ggs' popularity. You're too deep into the kpop fandoms space if you think these two groups are the most popular (not really disagree about BP tho) ggs of all time.

For example, individually in Fin.K.L we have probably the biggest soloist from a ggs of all times, one of the highest demand music actress, a successful actress with many hit dramas. As a group there popularity was at national level, their own varieties could pull 40%+ rating, while current groups are struggling to get 4%.

And do I need to talk about how they could sell 500k+ albums without multi versions, foreign fans bulk buying and random photocards?

Too bad we didn't have Gallup poll back then to compare with later groups.

  • Why are you trying to use solo activities to hype up a girl GROUP as the biggest ever? BOTH of these groups have accomplished numerous things that Fin.K.L could only dream of. We're talking two completely different scopes of popularity here. No one outside of Korea even remembers 1st gen groups, because no one else was paying attention back then.

You can ignore the part about solo activities.

Main point here is the popularity (one of the 3 criteria OP talking about). 1st gen ggs were popular than any current groups you can imagine, I just provided some facts in that comments.

Kpop has been less and less relevant for the mass population, the industry is now focusing on fandoms. It's not a surprise that new groups are less popular than old groups.

  • I think NewJeans have the potential to be there in the future so not too sure about the part where no 4th gen groups can match their success.

Dont see it in any of the current 5th gen girlgroups that have debuted

By success they already be there:

    - They have the longest (now second longest) PAK,

    - Have the 2nd highest sale for a gg album (2.2 mil),

    - GG with 2nd most tracks on the BB Hot 100,

    - GG with 3rd highest position on the BB Hot 100, after Blackpink and Fifty Fifty,

    - GG with 3rd highest monthly listeners on Spotify, after Fifty Fifty and Blackpink.

They have potential but they lost it, i am not sure they regain it even if they comeback.

Less relevant for the "mass population?" What is that? Do you expect me to believe Korea's general public were all listening to Kpop back then, and that somehow makes up for the lack of international exposure? Because I'm not buying it. Kpop groups have always relied primarily on their fandoms.

S.E.S's concert had 40% rating on MBC, it couldn't be only their fans. This's what national level of popularity looks like.

And no, I'm not saying Koreans were listening to Kpop back then, but they at least familiar with the groups and most/all of the members.
