How do you get out of a burn-out phase? How do you deal with it?

  • I won’t beat around the bush, in this case, it’s me.

In my entire life, I’ve never experienced anything like this, and I don’t know how to deal with it or where to start. Someone broke my heart, and I can’t seem to climb back up.

    • I hardly sleep anymore,

I feel like I’m not moving forward in life,

    • My goals, my dreams are suddenly on hold or going nowhere,

    • I’ve lost my appetite — I sometimes go 24 to 48 hours without eating (which has never happened before, since eating used to be a pastime for me),

Nothing interests me anymore, I go to work and come home with an empty mind,

    • I’m tired of everything happening around me,

    • Sure, I have friends who support me and are there for me, but the emptiness is still there, and I feel like I can’t get out of it.

Do you have any advice that could help things change or improve?

Thank you in advance for your response. Since I’m on a forum, I’m taking this opportunity to gather all kinds of advice (except the bad one) and I’m genuinely curious about your point of view.

  • watch some slow kdrama like My mister, VIP (2019)
Just flood your eyes with kdrama you like for as long as it takes to get better

warning this method can make you addicted to watch tv shows and is better suited for someone who has no work and had bad feelings about something.

I've done this before when I was young, but not because of depression, but because I was jobless... and then COVID happened, haha.

I like watching romantic K-dramas, but right now I'm trying to stay away from all romance. If you know what I mean XD

  • Im so sorry for feeling like this, I have been through similar phases in my life

Based on your description, it sounds abit like a burn out

If you have access to professional help, please seek out counseling. This is not an accessible or affordable option for many.

I recommend going out for walks in a quiet area/park daily. You might not feel like it, but being on the move really helps our mind.

Another thing I recommend is limiting internal self hate talk. Assume your friend is going through a similar phase, treat yourself how you treat a friend.

To get back on track, focus on one small goal that only depends on you and no other external factors. Finish the book you really wanted to finish, do more physical activities or try sth you never tried before.

Take it one day at the time and remember that its temporary and there will be an end to it

Changed the title of the thread from “How do you get out of a depressive phase? How do you deal with it?” to “How do you get out of a burn-out phase? How do you deal with it?”.
  • Thank you for the advice. I did some research on burnout (a new word for me, lol), and it’s exactly what I’m going through right now.

I’ll try to follow your advice, thank you for the tips

  • Honestly there was suggestion about watching kdrama. Maybe instead od watching romance try some thriller series? Have some recommendations, those will keep you hooked on and want to binge watch it and eat pizza or other preferred fast food!

"Mouse", "Pyramid Game", "Revenge of Others", "The Killing Vote", "Trigger", "Through the Darkness"

  • OopsEncoreMoi are you feeling any better now? Hang in there!

When I feel like this, I like to spend the day alone, outside, and without internet. E.g going to the park, and eating a picnic, but leaving my phone at home.

The sunshine feels good, and quietly contemplating life while you watch the world go by does wonders for getting your priorities right.

Yes, I’m feeling better… I’m learning to love myself more, day by day.

I go out often and connect a lot with people. I’m more active on social media, but mostly for fun (movies, tutorials, games, shopping). I stay away from anything negative.

And I try to focus on my goals (the ones that only depend on me).

You’re so right, nothing beats getting fresh air and being in nature. I’d really love to go on vacation this year, but I know it might be a bit tough. Hopefully I can make it happen ,fingers crossed 🤞
