Will MNET ever have another IZ*ONE?

  • IZ*ONE was mnet’s most successful survival show girl group and had they been permanent I’m sure they’d continue to dominate 4th gen.

My question is, if Mnet puts out another girl group survival will they have a chance at possibly a second Izone?

Kep1er had a good debut but fell off and never reached the same heights.

Izna, while not being temporary, is still finding their footing and haven’t exploded yet.

So with rumors swirling that a Girls Planet 999 season 2 is in the works, do you think MNET will finally have their IZONE successor or does lightning not strike in the same place twice? :whatr:

  • Nope, companies can't rig it so their trainees are guaranteed to win anymore so sending gold stars like Yujin and Wonyoung on a survival show instead of just debuting them and profitting from them without splitting the revenue 7 ways is never gonna be worth it again.

  • It would need to be big group with 11 or 12 members to attract people, also they would need to be lucky with both:

    - young trainees being stan attractors

    - foreign trainees bringing in fanbase

this would be hard to be done, and another problem is that when people start labeling someone as "next" or "lookalike" then the power of that new person is and always will be smaller than your original ones.

With the way mnet is doing boys 2 planet, I doubt they’ll ever go as big as 11 or 12 anymore which is a shame.

Also I feel like kpop fans now would rather choose older trainees because of the “well this is their last chance” mentality.

they can always mix things up like it was with UNIS

Hyeonju got another chance to debut thanks to Universe Ticket survival show

the problem in such cases is always an age gap, here she is 6 years older than 'next' few members which are 07 liners

but then again Eunbi is 9 years older than Wonyoung so maybe that's the thing that Knetz like?

The thing with Eunbi and Wonyoung was that Eunbi was the only girl who was mildly older. Everyone else fell into the 20-14 year old range at debut. So tbh she worked well with the older sister leader role. Plus the group still had a young average age.

With survival shows nowadays international fans especially are more prone to pick trainees that are older over having a younger group. Even with Kep1er I think their average age was older than Izone.

  • You cant let randos pick your members. There is no chance a publicly voted group goes anywhere near even IOI, let alone Izone. Companies pay millions to hire casting directors and producers to make decisions on who to include in a group, and even then, these experts get it right only a handful of times.

Izone members literally form the biggest domestic GG and biggest international GG (Wonyoung, Yujin, Sakura, Chaewon). The only 4th gen soloists that manage to chart (Eunbi, Yena, Chaeyeon). The biggest idols turned actresses who are nominated for the most prestigious awards like Blue Dragon (Hyewon, Eunbi, Yuri), this list dont even include the Izone member with the most prestigious TV roles, Minju for MBC dramas, who also is the only 3rd or 4th gen idol to star in an internationally distributed feature film.

  • I think it’s just down to the songs. La Vie En Rose was an absolute bop (still is). I.O.I were given the worst trash I have ever heard, and Kepler were given forgettable mid-tier tunes. You gotta give them good songs, especially their debut song. They need to come out the gate swinging and ride the fame of the show upwards.
