Are variety/promotional shows losing popularity?

I think TikTok and idols/groups having their own YouTube channels made interest in these shows decline. Knowing bros is corny and they flew too close to the sun many times, so I am happy that is fading away.

Back to the topic, but I think there's less needs for these type of shows because you can view idols content on their YouTube pages. Plus, there's many social apps they use to connect to fans like weverse, bbl, and others. So, there's less need to watch variety shows that are quite long when you can connect to idols through social network services or TikTok.

I think for stuff like studio choom we hear songs a lot through TikTok and have access to their performances creates less of needs. I think there's just too much of content and people have shifted to other content like it's live because they rather hear something unique with idols performing songs rather than performing on the studio choom stage.

The dance practice room of BIG4 now does the same thing as studio choom. What is the point of this concept now? It's interesting for artists from small companies, but nobody cares about them and their content so it doesn't generate any views.

i think it's also true that kpop's popularity as a whole has been on a decline anyways

Kpop is stagnant or in decline + idols aren't that funny anymore so they create almost 0 buzz in variety shows + variety shows aren't that funny with new formats.

Tbh variety shows started dying out long time ago it was a thriving period for 2nd gen and when 3rd gen came it already didn't work for most

Reason why a lot of 2nd gen idols still make it after their group disband is because they made a name for themselves in SK through those shows or through acting, which is why still can thrive in the SK local industry

more entertainment options means more competition and if one's variety shows are constantly changing and adapting and evolving...then it's obvious they'll lose popularity
