Ik Ive stans be pining for that #1 after a century of flopping repeatedly, but I feel Melon #1 has lost its lustre. Whiplash never reached #1 but it's so huge. Next level never did. It's huge too. Meanwhile idle's last year klaxon or whatever reached #1 but ended up being sooo much of a flop. So ive stans need to get their heads outta their rear sides. #1 doesn't make a hit

Is Melon #1 still a valid parameter to test whether a song is a hit?

i guess it's a factor but longevity matters a lot more

Every chart is just as reliable as the rest!

When there are a lot of hit songs, some can end up being just good songs that do well.

melon #1 is good for bragging but digital poitns on circle is a better gauge of how big the song is.
But with YT music taking over, it is harder for comparison cause Circle doesnt take in YT music.
Also, i do think songs that peak in top 5 are considered hits. Whether they are huge hits or not depends on longevity. I dont think songs like Drama, Whiplash, How Sweet, Heya, Klaxon that peaked at #2 are flops.
