Who do you think will win the 2028 United States presidential election?

  • Who do you think will win the presidential election in 2028? 8

    1. JD Vance (Vice President) (Republican) (3) 38%
    2. Gavin Newsom (Governor of California (Democrat) (2) 25%
    3. Another Democrat (2) 25%
    4. Ron DeSantis (Governor of Florida) (Republican) (1) 13%
    5. Glenn Youngkin (Governor of Virginia) (Republican) (0) 0%
    6. Gretchen Whitmer (Governor of Michigan) (Democrat) (0) 0%
    7. J. B. Pritzker (Governor of Illinois) (Democrat) (0) 0%
    8. Josh Shapiro (Governor of Pennsylvania) (Democrat) (0) 0%
    9. Kamala Harris (Vice President) (Democrat) (0) 0%
    10. Another Republican (0) 0%

Interestingly, Wikipedia already has the list of potential candidates for both the Republican Party and Democratic Party.

It is unprecedented for a President to suspend his/her presidential campaign after having already won the primaries until Biden did so in 2024, hence the "Another Democrat" and "Another Republican" options.

Changed the title of the thread from “Who do you think will win the presidential election in 2028?” to “Who do you think will win the 2028 United States presidential election?”.
  • if the next 4 yrs are relatively crisis-free (meaning no covid, no new wars etc) -> jd vance

if the next 4 yrs are a catastrophe and economic problems deteriorate -> dem candidate, very likely josh shapiro

    Can't forget the primaries!

Hillary Clinton had difficulty winning the primaries because of Bernie Sanders.

Kamala Harris did not participate in the primaries because Biden dropped out after the primaries were already won by Biden.

Both Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris lost to Trump.

  • DNC primaries have been a joke since 2016.

Bernie was blocked explicitly by the Clinton Cabal.

Biden was lagging behind in 2020, suddenly everybody dropped out and he got it.

2024, they decided to skip the whole puppet show.

  • tbh i dont think kamala has a chance at being a candidate again but it depends on how the next 4 years are, if its good its going to probably be a republican either youngkin (i hate him) or vance

I think the 2028 presidential election would likely be JD Vance (Republican) vs Gretchen Whitmer (Democrat).

If Gretchen Whitmer does not win the Democratic primaries, then it'll be someone else, but I don't expect it to be Gavin Newsom or Glenn Youngkin because they were both sued.

    Ok.

I am not venturing any opinion, because 2028 is too far and these days, politics changes faster than even Kpop.

I have people I am impressed with in both parties.

    Pete Buttigieg, Shapiro in DNC

Vance, Ramaswamy, Gabbard etc., in RNC

The next 4 years will show their mettle.

But I do think DNC needs a massive disruption - both the old elites and the wokes need to be marginalised, and it should return to more commonsense issues than extreme moral litmus tests.

Trump caused that to RNC, but DNC has been rotting from inside.

  • Gavin Newsom is terming out as Governor. Perfect DNC nominee. His ability to spell bound the electorate while harming them is legendary in California.

  • Gavin Newsom is terming out as Governor.

Do you think the Republican nominee would be DeSantis? He is also on his last term as Governor.

  • I think JD Vance is setup for 2028 GOP nominee. He is solid candidate. Trump's term in office is successful, Vance is likely 2028 President elect.

Term limits of two terms per State office. Newsom is on a second term as Governor. He could Run for another State office, like Assembly for two more terms. Newsom likely won't do that, his aim is higher office.

Newsom is wildly popular in the State. Can see DNC circumvent the Primary for his nomination. Let him ply his magic on the Dems.

Edited once, last by 4NIA4 ().

  • AOC reached out to those who voted both Trump and for her down the vote, to find why they made such an opposing choice.

The general opinion is that people see both Trump and AOC as authentic voices, anti-establishment.

Even if they agree/disagree with the actual policies.

I think that sentiment is going to last well into 2028.

So the types of Newsom, Desantis are bad choices.

Both parties will have to put up candidates not seen as part of the "Machine", somewhat of outsiders.

Vance is fine for RNC, but DNC needs to find their own. AOC seems the most viable.

Is Kamala Harris viable? One of the reasons she lost is because she did not participate in the primaries.

She had a short amount of time to campaign: 3 full months (August, September, and October)

Maybe if she runs for President again before the primaries begin, she could win because of having more time to campaign (if nominated)

    Not at all viable.

In 2020 she couldn't win a single delegate & was selected as VP purely for identity politics.

She scores very low on "authenticity", even on identity basis.

I agree with the theory that Biden screwed DNC, first by delaying his drop out, then by endorsing Harris, preventing DNC from having a primary, which Kamala had a very low chance of winning.

So DNC had to pretend that the VP they largely ignored for 4 years, was suddenly the great saviour.

    Fake.

    She is history.

DNC would be foolish to consider her at all. And if she enters primary, she will be massacred by multiple far more capable Democrats.
