Many have speculated before that SM didn't like their groups to be bigger than them, and at some point, they started to shelf the groups little by little. Many say this when SM fumbled their opportunity with Exo, Red Velvet, and Nct, even when these groups had more chances to expand their market and popularity.
SM 2.0 gives me some hope that this won't happen agai, as SM is actually doing a pretty good job of pushing Aespa since the management change. Now, the girls at a new height of popularity and have just achieved the biggest hit of their careers with Supernova, I hope they will continue to flourish well. Rumors say that SMNGG will debut next year, which makes me a bit nervous for them, but I think the company isn't as foolish as before to waste Aespa's hype just to push their new act. Lsm is not here anymore so I hope this old tradition will gone with him too.
