I hope SM doesn’t drop Aespa and continues to push them hard when their new girl group debuts next year

  • Many have speculated before that SM didn't like their groups to be bigger than them, and at some point, they started to shelf the groups little by little. Many say this when SM fumbled their opportunity with Exo, Red Velvet, and Nct, even when these groups had more chances to expand their market and popularity.

SM 2.0 gives me some hope that this won't happen agai, as SM is actually doing a pretty good job of pushing Aespa since the management change. Now, the girls at a new height of popularity and have just achieved the biggest hit of their careers with Supernova, I hope they will continue to flourish well. Rumors say that SMNGG will debut next year, which makes me a bit nervous for them, but I think the company isn't as foolish as before to waste Aespa's hype just to push their new act. Lsm is not here anymore so I hope this old tradition will gone with him too.

  • Aespa will follow the same path that almost all groups follow: push aespa less hard once they debut their new group. You give aespa some tours, slow down and see how contract renewals go, and then shelf them after a post-contract comeback. Maybe they'll invest in Karina or Winter or whomever they see as having the most upside. It makes more financial sense to do that since they will have better revenue splits with the new group than with renewing idols.

  • which is especially why I've always said the idols themselves need to undertake plenty of solo activities - whether it be acting/MCing/variety stuff/cfs/music etc etc

that way even if the group gets put on hiatuses one still has plenty of work

  • I mean they need to continue working well with aespa because

they don't have much of SNSD left in SM, and also we don't know what will happen to RV, some members might also leave and just be back from time to time for group activities

  • it's been 4 years since Aespa debut, if we're going by the 7 year contract then SM should strongly promote Aespa for at least another year. Then after that it will slow down.

SMNGG is coming, they will use up resources and promos, it's only logical that SM will push for SMNGG.

expectations are high so SMNGG better be ready for the criticisms and sharpen up their skills before official debut.

  • I’m actually in the minority that SM will still continue to push aespa :/ They’ve already delayed the New girl group to debut early Jan instead of this year and I think it’s because they see aespa’s potential and want to focus on one group at a time/ not have two potential big groups clash/ overlap with promotions and results :melon_think:

I agree aespa hit with next level but they were getting back to back comeback love until recently. It took them a moment to get to that point and its clear their concept is still growing conceptually when that peaks then i think aespa will be expected to coast on their popularity

  • SM is still up for sale, so it will interesting to see what happens when the new owners take over. it's not like they have a lot going for them at the moment and aespa is their main asset for the foreseeable future. It's not easy to replace your most popular group, just ask JYP , YG and Hybe...

I don't see the girls sticking it out for the long haul like RV tho, they can make it solo.
