    "SNSD's Bermuda line"

SY: But I wasn't part of any of those
    - I don't know if I shouldn't give too much thought about positions like being a center or whatnot

Eunhyuk: It's not like these things are that important

SY: I thought I just have to work hard in the end
    - But now that I've started promoting and the more I did it the more I started to think "Ha.. This is.."

EH: It's as if once it's decided, they'll keep pushing you towards that direction

SY: They keep pushing them towards that direction..
    - Meanwhile, I don't have any of those opportunities

    EH: I know right!
    - No matter what song they give you
    - Someone else will be standing in the center

    SY: Right?

EH: It's like "me too I think I've earned my experience now" ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

SY: If you look at the case of "Genie" I felt like I could've done it (be in the center)
    - But because it's been so long since these (positions) were decided (I can't)
    - It's not like nobody knows how it works!
    - Who doesn't know that YoonA is the pretty one!!!
    - We all know~!! We know she's the pretty one!!!

    EH: You all know BUT...

SY: I feel like they can still rotate it a bit
    - We all know she's the pretty one

EH: You're also allowed to get some opportunities

SY: It's like "Can't you even give me 3 seconds more to shine?"
    - I had thoughts like that in the past but!
    - When I look at it now, I think
    - "As expected... As expected... Their reputation wasn't in vain (t/n: 명불허전 is a Korean saying meaning you deserve your "name/reputation")

    *The executives' eye was correct

Donghae: Have you ever talked about it?
    - Tell them "you can't always do it like that"

SY: Whenever we receive our songs, why are the parts like that?

DH: :That's right you should mention the parts!
    - I'm curious about how you divide the parts

SY: They've obviously already decided on the parts
    - Do you guys remember? When I used to be a trainee, Bada unnie told me to sing a high note
    - And all the trainer unnies got impressed by me

EH: Ah so your high notes were better than they expected?

SY: That's why they thought "Soohyoungie is good with high notes!"
    - That's when they started giving me vocal training
    - But then they suddenly brought in a singing expert from Jeonjuㅋㅋ

EH: So Taeyeon got in the company

*The scary singing prodigy from Jeonju = Taeyeon*

SY: So now I'm once again trying to find what can I do to make a living again
    - Then I started working harder in dancing
    - Because now, another trainee will be fixed as a vocal once we debut
    - So I started cultivating my dancing skills
    - But Hyoyeon was already the god of dance at that time and Taeyeon was the god of singing

EH: Yah so where could you go?

SY: I had to find what I can do for a living
    - I think it was around the 7th year, when we released the new album with "You Think"
    - When I received that song, before the parts were given to us, I asked
    - "Please give me an opportunity to sing the song from beginning to end

    EH: Yah this isn't easy
    - You can't just casually do things like that

DH: There's also this thing where you ask yourself "Yah why do I need to go this far?"

EH: In SUJU's case, they'll say "Yah aren't you insane?"

SY: Right? It's not something easy to do even in you guys' point of view
    - The A&R team at that time asked "Why is it necessary...?"
    - I was so embarrassed
    - But from my perspective, I've been promoting for 7 years now, but it still felt like I was passing a test like a trainee
    - I was a bit shy about it, but I thought to myself "Let's not give up this time, let's try to sing it once"

    DH: Wow~ You're courageous

SY: So I sang the song from beginning to end
    - And to me, I felt like I did a decent job
    - And when I received the parts...
    - They gave me the rap parts!!

    (Ah...ㅜ)

EH: In the end, they have already decided what to do

SY: But from what I see, they have planned this from the beginning

EH: But still, what you did was amazing

    SY: At least I tried!

    original post: here

    1. That's right, the fact that she challenged herself proves that she's a cool person

    2. I didn't know Sooyoung was this cool

    3. Wow she's so cool, she's been promoting for 7 years and she still has this kind of attitude. Even the way she conducts herself on broadcast is cool

    4. ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ Let's be patient... Sooyoung fighting!!!!

    5. The more I look at Sooyoung, the more impressed I am, she's a cool person

    6. If you watched the video, the way she talks is so witty and she was light hearted about it ㅋㅋㅋ She's funny

    7. How can you put YoonA, Taeyeon and Hyoyeon in one group...

    8. She's actually cool

    9. I think she's amazing just for asking to be re-evaluated like a trainee although she has 7 years of expreience

    10. Her mindset is so good

  • Soo is always so well spoken. Must suck that no matter how talented she is she never really got her time to shine as others even for small parts but she still gave it her all.

    7. How can you put YoonA, Taeyeon and Hyoyeon in one group...

Imagine you're a fresh new trainee and these 3 enter the room as your competitors with their boss music playing. Its instant game over for 99% of trainees to get any top position lol

  • Back then there was no Youtube, Instagram, Tik Tok, a million different agencies. It was really just the Big 2 and a few smaller companies. So it was easy for SM to select the top from a vast pool of talent. Sooyoung should ask, why was she so fortunate to be chosen into the group.

Actually sooyoung was one of the first trainee selected for snsd and who was in every girls generation lineup

  • Man, this feels like I'm back in time. Sooyoung is such a troll.🤣

Sadly, it's still the most important thing in Kpop, because most fans pay attention to the visuals, and positions.

Who doesn't know that YoonA is the pretty one!!!

The whole world knows, but it's not like the others are ugly. Honestly, as much as I love Yoona, I always thought Seohyun is the prettiest.

The little Taeyeon "shade", God I love you, Sooyoung.😂

I mean, the fact that Taeyeon is still the best Kpop Idol vocalists after 17 years, it's scary, yeah.

    - But Hyoyeon was already the god of dance at that time...

I keep telling this to new Kpop stans, but they don't listen. I said so many times that Hyo is the best female dancer in Kpop.

  • Sooyoung was quite a good dancer. Not on Hyoyeon's level and worse than Yuri, but she was a bit better than Yoona, making her third best in the dance line. And SNSD's overall dancing ability was one of the best in gen 2.

Singing live was common in gen 2 up until its waning years. In gen 2, a girl group disbanded because they were caught lip syncing on stage and the following scandal that it caused. I would guess that companies really held idols to their positions more tightly. You want your vocal line taking the brunt of the singing load because they are your singers, and you want your dancers and center to coordinate to the group effectively. Sooyoung was invaluable to SNSD's coordination, and it worked: SNSD was one of the best dance groups and vocal groups in gen 2. Their stages were always great and even in their latest comeback, they were outperforming newer groups.

I'm not sure how much of a role Sooyoung could've receive during the signing parts. She had good distribution in Forever 1, especially in "Closer." And they gave her an opportunity with "Sway." I mean, you can delegate Tiffany to rap, but she would still need to compete with Taeyeon, Seohyun, Jessica when she was still there, and Sunny. And that's just the vocal line. I'm glad that she's releasing a song now. I liked her solo "Winter Breath." I just think it's difficult to give her a big role in SNSD's songs with so much competition at the time.

Good for her to advocate for herself though. No wonder she left SM when she did.

  • Sooyoung the all rounder, in a group full of specialists..

But when it comes to personality, doing variety - she is the best.

She is the livewire of SNSD, the person to hang out with

    The Unstoppable Choi Sooyoung

  • It's good that she's doing well solo. Her hard work paid off.

  • This also shows that many members want to sing well and shine too but can't because everything is structured from the beginning.

  • I remember when I first got into snsd and still didn't know their names, me and friend used to call her "diamond in the rough". This was during the Genie era and me and my friend just thought she could look so much hotter than the haircut they was giving her. And her smile was so cute. But then I started to realize that she's hardly in any of their songs, and I actually used to feel a little bad for her. But thought I might be overreacting. It's interesting to see not everyone is always so happy with being more background position
