Using Circle/Gaon sales (instead of Hanteo) paints a different picture:

Not really. Ive and Gidle are still number 1 and 2. Also Circle includes unsold albums from stores/retailers. I don’t know how many times we will have this conversation. It’s normal for big companies Circle numbers to be higher since retailers probably expected their groups to sell more and thus ordered more.

I don't think Armageddon's Circle sales figures have been released yet, since the album just came out on the 27th.

I'm certainly aware of the differences between Hanteo and Circle. The problem is that Hanteo doesn't count all sellers, and fans of different artists have different buying habits, and such habits can easily skew Hanteo sales figures. In essence, Hanteo favours artists whose fans buy from Hanteo-affiliated sellers.

Just look at the ratios of Hanteo to Circle sales for the albums in question:

There is a huge difference from Itzy's 56.0% to (G)I-dle's 91.7%. For some reason, Itzy fans apparently don't purchase as much from sellers that are Hanteo certified. Thus, using Hanteo for these sorts of comparisons presents a bias for certain artists. Circle/Gaon therefore represents more of a "level playing field", which is why I always tend to use it over Hanteo.

aespa and ive have chinese boycott and still managed well

I didn't realise Gidle had gotten so big their fandom ended up being the biggest among currently active girlgroups. This is both impressive and surprising.
