tbh I think youtube does restrict views much more than ever before because they want companies to buy ads for their mvs. Even big Western artists' view counts are being affected; but the flip side of this is that now I feel like people care less than ever about youtube views and now it's all about spotify/melon (a bit ironic because I feel melon has at most a year left before it's no longer the most popular streaming service in SK).
It's crazy because 2015-2020 yt views were like by far the most prized "measure" of popularity it seemed.
Im not sure what Kpopfans want eventually
They said bots were streaming to inflate the views and hence Youtube implemented better filtration + they also filtered silent streaming. That's why all the view numbers went down for both kpop AND also western artists once they implemented those.
Also, many western fans are moving over to music streaming and abandoning YT because of the annoying Ads if you dont pay for premiun.
If everyone is on same footing for filtering rules, then it is the the fandom problem of not able to pull big views. E.g. IVE's latest MVs are having terrible views because Starship stopped paying for ads. ITZY too cause JYP didnt bother to spend on them anymore. Same goes to Twice. Stop crying, it is so embarassing to accuse Youtube of manipulating the views like what are the reasons? Going by the logic company doesnt pay = YT delete more views, then i guess BTS and BP should be more affected because their company dont use ads for them since beginning...

This. God those ads are so annoying.
And I think streams only count with ads right?
Anyway, can't be bothered to sit through 2 x 20 second (highly annoying) ads to see one MV.
Used to be that you could skip after 5 seconds or an ad was just 5 seconds.
And I used to be that kind of person that streamed all kinds of Kpop youtube MVs just to help out nugu groups or any group really that underperformed or where fans were kindly asking to stream.
Kind of sad how that fun activity was ruined.

No one cares about MV views now.
People did 10 years ago, but it is now basically Korea charts if a group is still stuck in the minor leagues, or Billboard/Spotify if they are competing with the grown ups.
Some companies will still pay for ads, because their company believes it is a cost-effective way to get more fans for that group. e.g. Ateez does and it works.

They are also paying premium to avoid ads on streaming services too. Youtube just became unpopular.
