NewJeans triple domination in South Korea, Japan, and the U.S is insane

  • NewJeans is obviously the most popular girl group in South Korea, I don't think there should be a debate on something so clear. Their success in the U.S is evident too, focusing solely on the general public, NewJeans are the most popular kpop girl group in the U.S after Blackpink, and they're only 2 years into their career. NewJeans' popularity in Japan is something that many people don't focus on because of NewJeans achievements in Korea and the U.S. But if you look at all of NewJean's achievements in Japan, it's clear they're one of the top kpop girl groups in Japan right now.

  • Not so sure about that, Super Shy is only 8k UL away from being out of top 10 and its only been out for 15 weeks. There is a chance that it wont even make 20 weeks because of all the tough competition that came after it like AKMU, JK and Jennie's surprise hits, Somi, Ive and a few rando OSTs. :pepe-shrug:

So it's G Idle > NJ > LSRF the top 3 in Korea right now? I mean, those are the groups who managed to get enough ULs to get a top 3, even if just for 10 weeks :iconpepe:

  • most popular is subject....the question as always is what are the metrics and criteria and weightings used to determine popularity...

I'm not saying NJ is or is not the most popular...all I'm saying is determine the criteria first then use it to evaluate popularity and not the other way around...

Yep, to gauge whether they are popular due to trending of Songs or popular due to the group itself which is basically the situation with Fifty Fifty that are popular for their Songs.

Sustainability for GGs is the hardest thing to achieve, TWICE and BP have shown this and even increasing their metrics for Album and Concerts as they get older which is unheard of for GGs.
