my body my choice

  • i generally agree with this statement but where do you think this statement stops being valid?

    public nudity?

    crossing the street in underwear?

but what if its actually very short denim shorts that pretty much serve the purpose of underwear but technically arent underwear?

what if the outline of a grown man's pp is visible and it makes children around him uncomfortable?

is it still his body, his choice or do the people around him have the right to report for harassment?

under what circumstances do you think, "my body my choice" simply does not hold up?

  • I think that will always vary from person to person, depending on what values they grew up with.

For me, I think I draw the line around mature adults and knowing/respecting the general setting where you're going.

For example a nude person on a nude beach makes perfect sense but the same person church/mall/office won't make sense to me at all.

Walking in booty shorts/underwear on streets, idc.

Intentional nudity to immature kids is grooming for me without a doubt. So that's a big no for me. Its not about your body your choice there...its about children safety, that will always come first for me.

  • I think it depends in intent.

If you are wearing something specifically to harass or to make other people fell uncomfortable then I think something should be done. However how do you determine if what somebody is wearing falls into that category. That is why I think in general other people should not have the ability to determine what you are waring as long as it covers all private areas.

so you'd say as long as private parts are covered, everything's golden in public?

  • I have seen big girls skinny girls tall girls short girls walk into my store in midriff and boory shirts and im like if u got the body flaunt it whatever though this ain't Walmart but for those who doesnt have a body for such outfits I wonder who let them leave the house. That's not confidence that's having no respect for yourself. Imo.

But also if you're going to a store I don't wanna see you dressed like some cheap skank..dress like that with your friends or at home but not a grocery/store or place of business.

I lived in Vegas seeing people dress in various ways is no surprise to me. They dress in the skimpiest attire trying to make a few bucks or because they can. Sure it's your body but there's a time and place to dress certain ways and you should respect the people that have to look at you and see things they probably don't wanna see.

But also your body your choice can apply to you getting tattoos, piercings etc that is YOUR choice if you want to do that to yourself. If you want surgery to change things, that's your choice. In those instances who cares what people say or think.

  • didnt get your point on the clothing part

im asking for some ideal concrete rules on what should be allowed and what should not in public places, for all genders

What do you mean u didnt get my point? Do i need to dumb it down? I said theres a time and place to dress like a skank in not so harsh terms. That ive seen all body types dressing in the same way and i wonder how people leave the house thinking they look good. Idk how you didnt get my point. I said dressing like that is something id expect in vegas not a grocery store i work in.

I dont see men dressing in skimpy clothes as much as I see women.

i need hard and concrete rules

be as detailed as you want, no need to make it simple

like, what body parts should and should not be revealed and under what circumstances

think of convincing a law enforcer with proper objective metrics

as for your body type thing, i dont agree with that

i see your point and thats fine but thats not what im looking for

  • Cover your parts aint no one wanna see your tits or ass or underboob or your shit about to fall out of your shirt. Indecent exposure is a law in the u.s for a reason. Go to a beach wear a skimpy bikini thats fine. Dont wear it to a store.

I dont really get the point when it should be common sense. If you wanna dress like a stripper go to a club. Private parts should be kept private.

as for abs on a guy it's not really considered sexual but if you're going to a store or out in public put a shirt on, i enjoy a nice body on a guy but they don't need to be walking around shirtless in public places like restaurants or stores. And women can have nice toned abs as well, you can wear a midriff shirt and i wouldn't bat an eye but don't wear a crop top to the point your boobs are about to fall out in all directions.

It can be your body but be respectful of people around you who may not want to see it for various reasons (ex religion, etc)

  • but what if showing off my abs in the mall is my choice

    its my body after all

Crop tops are so common I wouldn't even bat an eye

Oh but if you're talking about shirtless then depending on the mall you will be denied services which again brings up 'following respective area etiquettes' part

  • i think whenever being out in public u should be covered up as in more than what u would wear at the beach.

LiKE UR BUTT SHOULD BE COVERED idk how women wear thongs on the beach like its practically pornographic to have ur whole butt on display

also your boobs or genitals should not be showing!!

i think if u can see ur buttcheek u should probably not be wearing that outside !!

well im a guy and afaik male chest is not considered a sexual organ

  • well im a guy and afaik male chest is not considered a sexual organ

Yeah but it may still be considered inappropriate for certain places not because of sexual reasons but because of general dress codes.

That said, flex your abs as you want. I doubt anybody minds good pair of abs be it girl or guy

  • aren't there indecency laws in every country? region?

like obviously one cannot go around naked in public that's a crime

besides that it depends on the setting of course

there's a time and place for bikinis and skimpy clothes at the beach or pool compared to say an office or something

  • If it were me dictating public ethics.

I would enact something along the lines of 1940s-1950s era esque public dress standards.

At that time there were situational arenas for slightly more revealing clothing like entertainment establishments and recreational venues.

But in the majority of public arenas, a more conservative standard of dress was expected. There was an expectation to present yourself well and not obscenely or in a slovenly or revealing fashion.

I don't think going back to all collared shirts and suits for men and women in dresses is a realistic or even perhaps desirable goal.

But I think the overall ethos of that time. Of being more presentable and modest in public was a genuinely positive standard that had a positive effect on society.

As this pertains to my country, the U.S. I think we lost something with the unbridled pursuit of self expression and breaking of all personal boundaries no matter the consequence in the wave of the late 1960s onward.

There's a balance in there somewhere we blew right on past.
