We might hate and shit on MNet survival shows

  • but lemme tell you this

Even when I was mad at Girls Planet 999 result

    I still watched Queendom Puzzle

and I'm pretty sure I will also watch I-LAND 2

the same as I will tune in for another Sixteen or Nizi Project ifJYP will make one

and also the same as I will watch SBS Universe Ticket survival with Sejeong, Hyoeyon, Chaeryeong and Yeji as mentors/judges

I can't say the same about HYBE survivals tho, for sure not tuning in for anything there after how they tricked ifans with voting to reveal that 'the label will choose 4 members' during final episode xD fkn bullshit

  • Thats actually exactly what JYP did

  • Results aside, usually survival shows from companies doesn't have legendary stages. Bang Bang, Tomboy, ZOOM, Rumor, Shape of You, Move and much more. I replay Produce stages a lot, but the same doesn't happen to shows from one company (doesn't matter if it's hybe, jyp or any other).

  • How a Big4 company could think debuting a pre-selected Girl Group through a Survival Show in 2023 would be a good launching pad for them is beyond me

They would have been better off doing the selection process behind closed doors and just debuting them normally

Survival Shows nowadays just breed resentment towards the Final Lineup/Company because no one Trusts them anymore

Hybe had no business debuting a Group from one, leave that stuff to smaller companies who could benefit from the exposure, even if it is negative

  • Too soon to tell whether survival show was a good idea for the RU Next gg. I'm leaning towards yes - like Baemon, all the girls were unknown quantities, and through the show, at least ppl know the names of the members. Mission accomplished.

Contrast this to LSF's (or IVE's) standard debut showcase format - even though Sakura and Chaewon were already well known, streams still took time to build and double with subsequent comebacks. Not every team can pull off a MHJ type of economical, unannounced, out of nowhere debut and have the marketing prowess to make it work.

Big 4 backed programs are the safer time investment - at least the groups won't flop. I haven't watched any of the Planet series bc Wake One management sucks. And it looks like that was a good call.

The two shows that I have/will be watching every episode with great interest are A2K and Dream Academy. This is a first step towards a future the Kpop industry has chosen. The programs will provide clues where their heads are at and how things might develop.
