Random JPop-idols who give me KPop-vibes

  • This thread was inspired by Minazuki cause I had to think of how some Japanese artists have this look :teeheek: So here is a small row of some JPop-dudes who give KPop-vibes in my opinion ~ :chicken-jump: (If someone may be mixed or fully Korean or is a former KPop-trainee or KPop-idol than thats not intended, but just a coincident)

  • I think only Junon gives me more J-pop vibes than K-pop

It's so funny, cause Junon used to be in a KPop-group before .. even tho he never promoted with them since they disbanded shortly after he was added

  • that's fucked up

At least he was able to debut as a J-pop idol

But it was quit hard for him as it seems. When he came back to Japan his entire house burned down, his dog died in the fire, he later on developed an eating dissorder and became very skinny. ooof Hope he is ok cause he allways looks happy and I hope that this is not a fake smile

Taichi - His full name is Taichi Honda, but his other name is Taeil. He was born and raised in Japan but when he finished highschool he decided to move to Korea to study at the university over there. In his Korean university some students asked if he would like to join a band, so he played drums in that band for about a year. After he finished university he joined 2 different KPop-groups who were called Mr.Crown and BLANC7. When his 2nd boygroup had disbanded he decided to come back to Japan where he joined IVVY as one of the new members in the end of 2021.

Guno - His real name is Wang Jyunhao. He is actually from Taiwan, but he moved out of it for his music career, but due to lockdown was back to Taiwan in 2021 for an entire year before he could leave the country again. Originaly he was trainee under YG where he also participated on the show that formed TREASURE. However when he didn't made it he decided to leave YG and follow one of his friends who also had left YG. He and his friend, who's name is Mahiro both than apeared on Produce X together, but when they also didn't made it on the show Mahiro decided to go back to Japan and Guno who said he would follow Mahiro no mathere where he is going of cause followed him to Japan, but when he visited his parents in the end of 2020 he was locked up in Taiwan due to a lockdown that didn't allowed him to fly back to Japan. This made it a bit difficult for BUGVEL to debut and resultet in that only a few weeks before debut the group's leader decided to leave the group. Funfact to the other members of BUGVEL, they all had participated on Produce 101 Japan season 1 before. BUGVEL debuted in 2022

Junon - His full name is Junon Ikagame. I mentioned him before. As far I know he was for about 2 years in Korea and than was added to the quit failed group called Vermuda. They only ever did their debut MV in 2017 and had no other music so knowing they added Junon in 2019 and than disbanded quit early and never did much was, bad I would say. In 2021 he than participated on the show called 'THE FIRST' and made it to BE:FIRST who resultet out of the show.

Yuki - His real name is not known, but thats typical for some JPop-artists. He joined MADKID when they were formed in 2014 and debuted in around 2016 but later on made their major debut in 2018. He also works as model and used to release solo music too for a while (I think for now he only posts stuff to Soundcloud). Yuki also works a lot for his group since their company gives the group all the creative freedom that they want so he writes a lot songs, produces songs, choreographes dances for the group etc. And he also help in his company on translating lyrics for other artists as it seems cause he mentioned a few times on Twitter how he would've been the guy who translated the songs on ATEEZ's Japanese releases from Korean to Japanese for them. MADKID as a group is too underrated and people sadly only ever cared for the first ever anime-ost they made. Also you will notice from the songs that the dudes are so good when you realise that they mostly make their songs all on their own.

Hyuga - His full name is Hyuga Nakatani. He debuted with his group ENJIN in 2020 and also works as model and stageplay actor. Before ENJIN debuted as a boygroup everyone was actually suposed to debut as stageplay actors because they originaly wanted to be a stageplay-actor group. But way before that all members of ENJIN had been on Produce 101 Japan season 1. And even before this Hyuga was already active as model (which randomly caused some confusions when he was rumored to participate on Produce Japan since people did dumb coments like he would be too handsome since most Japanese idols might be ugly ... what?)

Nalu - His full name is Nalu Okubo. He originaly participated on Produce 101 Japan season 2 but even tho he and 3 other members of DXTEEN didn't made it on the show they were still taken as trainees to the company of the winner groups from the show. Later on he and the 3 other members trained for about a year in Korea before their debut.

Taichi - His full name is Taichi Taniguchi. He used to be trainee in Korea and participated on the show that formed the Kpop-group TO1 but didn't made it on there. He was later revealed as leader of DXTEEN shortly before they debuted in 2023.

Ayumu - His full name is Ayumu Kyusho. He debuted with his group ONE LOVE ONE HEART when he was just 14. But before this he allready tried to become member of another group since when he was 9 years old he participated on the show that formed the boygroup Genin wa Jibun Ni Aru (short Genjibu) where he was taken as trainee for the trainee-unit Battle Boys in the section of the city "Nagoya" but when his company decided to form a joint group with another company he graduated from Battle Boys and debuted with ONE LOVE ONE HEART.

(Major debut in JPop means you will earn enough to get yourself trought and not have to work 2-3 jobs on the side, some people still do other work, but mainly to keep their image up like model jobs or acting but not like being an idol and doing office work or work as cashier on the side, you know what I mean and this is the dream of most of these people who didn't allready debuted under a major company in Japan)

  • What really impressed me the most is how the majority of them have tried multiple times to make it. Or debuting in other groups that weren't successful, or doing part time jobs, or joining reality shows.

It's really not an easy career

Yeah, sometimes even celebs in other countries do the same. Like I know of a vocalist here in Germany who started as gangster-rapper with the typical "I am so criminal blah blah" image, but they showed in a show on TV once how they would surprise celebs with a normal day-job at work and I laught so hard when it came out that this dude was working in a kindergarten

One thing that shocks me the most about JPop is what I once heard in YT-video from a channel called "The Anime Man" where he interviewed a former JPop-idol. The girl was just 23 and is Korean-Russian from Gemany, but all the struggles she had to go trought just to be able to work as idol. And it was especially hard for her since her group is a so called "underground" idol-group.

Underground idol-groups are those who often perform for free or for just a very small amount of money who make most money by selling merch at events or concerts but most of the money they make is going to the company. So let's say you allready atend a free event or an event that is so cheap that people barly pay anything to get inside. You get a timeslot of maybe enough to perform 3 songs and than try to sell selfies or other merch in hope to make even any money. In the video of The Anime Man the girl said if she would make 21$ with selling merch on a event she would have to pay 7$ for the price it took to make the good and 7$ to her company so it was very importaint for her group to get people and especially their fans so excited for them that the fans automaticly would spend more money towards the group. She said they sometimes just made like 20$ per person each event so they apeared on as many events as possible troughtout the week and one of the girls in her group worked 3 part-time jobs on the side to afford her apartment. That sounds crazy !
