I think groups have like year and a half of promotions, and then already next survival stars and with that some 1st group members are later used as mentors or as guests in this show in which their successors are choosed.

Why does Produce 101 say that there could be a permanent group but never had been one
has there been any group that has lasted the longest from Produce 101?The original premise of the show was to debut a temporary group composed of the winners from a given season. The contract of the group from the first season only lasted a couple of months but seeing the huge success of these groups mnet kept making their contract longer and longer for each season (first season group (IOI) lasted 9 months, 2nde season (Wannaone) lastes 1.5 years, 3rd season (izone) lasted 2.5 years). The fourth season winner group (X1) was supposed to last 5 years (which is not that far from a regular kpop group contract duration) but the scandal happened so they had to stop promotion prematurely.
It is difficult to make those groups permanent because the members all come from different companies. Eventually they always end up breaking up because there are too many parties involved, making it difficult to please everyone's own interest and to come to a common agreement.
