[+153, -35] I'm so sick and tired of trot! Enough's enough. There's no difference between idols and their hook songs and trots.

[+55, -7] I'm not an Im Young Woong anti but I'm sick of seeing him on the Melon charts. I feel like I need to switch over to Apple Music.

[+46, -5] The culture of music is changing with the times. The elderly are learning to enjoy their retirement by listening to music and healing. Invest in yourself. Life is short.

[+56, -22] He's constantly in the Melon top 100 so I just canceled my subscription

[+23, -1] I feel like there's way too much trot shows now... it's actually turning me off from the singers.

[+28, -11] I quit Melon because of all the Im Young Woong songs in the top 100. I'm so sick and tired of him.

[+23, -7] I left Melon because of this guy. If you play the top 100, it's all his songs. I'd understand two or three being up there but his ajumma fans have every single one of his stupid songs lined up there, ugh. I started making my own playlists and deleting all of his songs. His ajumma fans are ruining it for the rest of us and it's actually making me petty enough to refuse to listen to his songs no matter what.

[+17, -1] I'm honestly a bit amazed that he's gotten this big ㅎㅎ

[+15, -5] Please don't try and link trot to K-Pop

[+19, -10] I'm in my forties and I like Im Young Woong. He's good at ballads and drama OSTs too. His albums have a lot of different genres... He was the #1 favorite singer in the Gallup poll of forties last year.

[+33, -25] Im Young Woong's fanclub reminds me of the JMS cult. They treat him like a god and have no problem crushing any other artist in his way and attacking their fandoms. They seriously look possessed with how easily they'll attack anyone who's against him.

[+8, -0] His ajummas are in their fifties which means they were the start of the early days of fandom culture. Now they have the money and time to back it all up.

[+23, -17] His fandom feels like a mental illness

[+8, -2] His fans aren't true fans. They'll take his articles and spam them with thousands of comments... They'll trash all of the music charts by purposely lining up all his songs on them. This can't be what real fandom culture is... How can they be so inconsiderate to everyone else?

  • quitting melon cause he is constantly on the top 100 there sounds dumb???

unless melon users are forced to listen to the top 100 or something

For over a decade the top 100 (melon mainly, but basically all other services had the same system) realtime chart was the primary way koreans listened to and discovered new music. This is slowly changing with charts changes and competition mainly from youtube, but id say the majority of causal listeners still listen to music this way.

The services changed their charts because of the fandoms of kpop idol groups masstreaming and playing the system to line up their faves song on the chart every morning and they were losing users because of it because people did not want to hear 20 boygroup songs when they went to work in the morning. They have now been replaced by LYW.

His fanbase is wealthier and more dedicated than any other domestic fanbase has ever been. It will not be long until he is the most streamed act ever in korea (beating out BTS, EXO, IU etc) while having one of the worst stream to daily listeners ratio ever ( a small amount users streaming his songs 24/7)

  • Yes and no.

    In Korea yes. Worldwide no.

So where it really counts, because Korea doesn't matter that much anymore, is he will never have multiple 40,000+ size concerts each year, whereas the top kpop groups will.

  • kpop stans being beaten at their own game by aunties and grannys

But this is definitely a vibe. Seems people are really salty and others for liking something they dont like?

Also can't related to the whole "playlists are being ruined by it", because I personally never listen to Spotifys created playlists, I make my own

Especially Top 100 type stuff. I do NOT need Ed Sheeran and crud like that assaulting my precious ears
