AKP users who remember 9/11, what was that day like?

  • Remember everyone stopped their regular routines and watched the News. One thing I noticed so different was the roaring sound of Commute traffic went silent. It happened during morning commute and the roar of the nearby freeway went silent. Assume people stayed Home watching news.

Real time news coverage preempted all forms of media. The entire Day was focused on the terrorist attacks. The horrific coverage went raw and unfiltered. Criticism of Mexican News showing people leaping to the deaths and sounds of bodies hitting the ground was gruesome. The spectacle of Skyscrapers collapsing on itself was mind boggling. Watching people being murdered in an instant.

The Nation went on full alert against more terrorist attacks. Entire airspace above Northern America was cleared of all Air Traffic. Anything still flying was suspected terrorist attack in progress and would be shot down. A complete grounding of every aircraft.

The five stages of grief and loss began that day.

  • I was just about to go to university and was sitting at home, recovering from an operation when the news hit. I was watching TV and they suddenly cut the regular programming and switched to news broadcasts. At first they were reporting just the one plane hit, and we were wondering if it was a dreadful mistake and how it had happened when they suddenly reported the second plane hitting and everyone realised it must be a terrorist highjacking.

It was surreal and awful watching the news unfold and then seeing the footage as everything progressed and then the Pentagon hit as well.

I grew up with the threat of terrorist bombings in London because of the IRA but the scale of this was previously unimaginable to me.
