Which GG concept is the safest ?

  • Which GG do you think is the safest for the long run ?

I have the feeling that the cute/innocent gnd concept works well as long as the members are still very young, you can’t do it forever, they seem to have it the hardest when they switch to another concept. Almost any GG who got popular with that concept lost quite a lot of their popularity when they switched to a more matured concept. Apink is the only GG I can think of who managed to have a great transition from cute/innocent gnd concept to a more mature concept and still hit the jackpot.

The sexy concept brought quite a lot of Hits. We had Sistar, Girls Day, Exid and Secret. But while they did well with their more matured concept, they often struggled to have a stable fanbase and unfortunately you can see it when they disband and all the members go mia.

For me currently it seems like the Girl Crush concept is the safest, if you got successful with it. The Girl Crush concept is more a spectrum of many different concepts in one tbh. GG’s who do well with Girl Crush can actually move from different concept without it being much of a problem. Not just that, they also have it easier trying out different music genres.

For sure, but it's not really an issue. Their music should gain in maturity as the members grow older. I think Twice and GFriend did it this way, right? I know I was not particularly interested in their earlier works but their latest releases really did it for me.

Girl crush indeed seems less time limited. So it might be the better concept on the long run.

  • I’ll say none is the safest. EXID did sexy concepts but people said it was repetitive and how they kept reusing the same sound with 2 songs after Up and Down success. Same with Momoland who hit big with Bbam x2 they reused their same sound to try to make another hit. Than Apink who started out with straight on cute concepts tried to transition with a mature sound with Only One but flopped. Till they found a sound that worked for them with BEP.

It’s the sound that matters the most than the concepts tbh. It’s how you set yourself apart and create an identity with it.

  • Versatile and unique concepts are the best and the safest. But they're also riskier because the members must have a lot of talent to be able to switch the concepts, whether it is for dancing or singing. It also requires great artistic creativity.

If you really love something, you have to know how to let go.

  • There is no concept that can keep you going forever. Trends change, listeners tastes change, members thoughts change etc. Cute mainly works when you're young, sexy had its phase years ago, girl crush was rare years ago, dark concept had a flash (SNSD RDR, Kara Lupin), who knows what will be the trend in a few years time.

You have to adapt in some way with small or drastic shifts like most groups or you could take the SNSD route and do everything. Either way being static forever can lead to stagnation which can affect things like sales, public anticipation etc
