Were kpop fans more innocent back then? Re: Ice Cream Cake MV

  • So I was watching random kpop mvs on Youtube and while watching ICC I thought about how kpop fans of present days were quick to pick up "double/triple entendres" such as in the song Cookie. Back then we all knew about ICC's lyrics potential double meanings but kpop fans reacted more passively. Then I spotted an oddly placed shot in 1:43 of the MV, instead of Irene’s face. Considering who was involved in the directing, do you think this was all deliberate and kpop fans should have complained about ICC as much as they did about Cookie?

  • That looks like in music shows when they randomly zoom in on their hips or crotch, but it's weird that they would do that in their own music video when it normally comes off as overdoing it/amateurish, like "look how hawt are these ladies"

Well I can believe the filmmakers wanted to show their feminine sexuality or whatever. But if we care about one short frame's meaning then we should also care about the random ball and all the other aspects that have no popular explanation. Actually this hip shake is sort of a relief as finally, a tiny piece of that abstract film/video has a clear meaning to the audience.

  • If you think a song about fucking a pussy is sexual, then I don't know what to tell you.

The same way, the "Hurt" mv wasn't about an uncle fan wet dream.

I think Hurt is not weird, I read about it on kpopalypse's blog, where he has a post explaining why he thinks it's a dog whistle. I also read his post about dog whistle concepts in k-pop where he cites April - Dream Candy. However I have always thought that post was exaggerating, cause I don't think either Hurt or Dream Candy's MVs are creepy, even though I read his analyses before watching the videos.

I know dog whistles means something only a specific group of people notices (and they are not necessarily negative things either, can just be things requiring certain knowledge or attitudes). But idk about Hurt specifically because it's so nondescript to me, in fact I think watching the video looking for "creepy hidden meanings" was a waste of time because it's legit just some people singing at the camera.
