Thougts on Hybe shutting down the Vlive Archive?

  • Vlive Archive is a site where, just like it's name, archiving the vlive videos. Many fans love it because with this, they can always rewatching their fav's vlive again, wether it was because they missed out, want to find some details or just simply missing them.

And when Vlive stopped their operation, Vlive Archive became the safe heaven for some, since all the videos will not entirely lost.

But recently, that backup site announcing this, and they when unavailable.

Many people lashing out because it's like Hybe is deleting many group's archive, where there is also one who defend Hybe action.

So, what's your thought on this?

Where Hybe is shutting down a fan-made backup site.

  • so the person backed up with the web name... vlivearchive? no wonder they got caught. i'm all for free access to online content especially for disbanded group, but you have to play vigilante for that. army also have several people creating cloud drive of contents, but it's hush hush. like duh, we're dealing with legal protected IP here.

regarding the vlive itself, i understand fans' sentimentality but as a working person no way i can fault naver nor hybe for shutting down vlive. they are no youtube, preserving dynamic data (video, at that) with public access requires a lot of human labor and hardware maintenance. that's huge overhead for mostly free service, no ad, and dwindled traffic. without naver investing to weverse, vlive is bound to be taken down, they operated in red since 2019.

my only gripe in this situation is why companies of groups won't transfer their archives to...idk youtube? they can get revenue from ad anyways (but i'm not sure how the math works so 🙃). if hybe and naver prohibit them, well they sucks.

  • All of the companies were informed and given an year time to tranfer their contents. I'm sure they mustve transfered the contents and would upload in any of their prefered platform in future.

  • They should've been more stealth with backing up the content. However, I also think Hybe could've looked the other way because I don't see how permitting a fan archive is going to hurt their bottom line much.

it's all predatory ip laws. Basically they state that if you don't challenge a strike to your ip it becomes free game. So even if HYBE wanted it to be a thing for fans, the fact they didn't host it meant that if hybe never did anything about it, after a set amount of time anyone would be able to claim ip rights and hybe by law would have no choice but let anyone use it. It would be like if you made a marvel movie and marvel studios did nothing afterwards anyone can make one and they can't do shit about it

Ah ok. Thanks for explaining that. Makes a lot of sense.

  • Don't see people crying about SM buying Universe and transferring it to Bubble.

VLIVE is a name protected by copyrights, who in the right mind created an illegal backup using this name...

It was obvious that they will find it. Like try to be at least a little bit stealthy...

I also don't understand people that are crying that HYBE is bad because they could live it ''alive'' - maintaining servers is not cheap and there is no income coming from those videos anymore. Sucks for fans but it is what it is.

And if the groups didn't transfer it to a different platform, it means they don't care about this content - so why should HYBE care about it?

  • People did cry over universe, but since it's not as big or the main "central idol platform" most don't care. People aren't doing lives on universe🤡. As for groups backing up content? Ok let me break everyone's fantasy, most idols are stupid as in technology stupid and some academically as well. The overwhelming vast majority cannot do a regular job because since childhood they spent 99% of their lives being a idol plus the isolated nature of idol life and the sterilized environment agencies try to bring them up in leaves most of them socially awkward to the point they cannot be " normal" and would fail most normal organic met someone outside mechanics= they can't human properly. Couple this with their overbearing workloads to the point that sometimes important news is unknown to them. So something like some old vlive clips? I guarantee they don't even know this issue even exists. They probably get told vlive is gone as soon as they think about going live and a staff or manager is like oh yeah use this new thing now.
