No it doesn't track the number of unique buyers.
Pure sales refers to the physical and digital album sold.

I do wish there was a way to track unique buyers though...but total copies sold is a still really good indicator about how well they're doing fan-wise (because most people that buy albums are fans, right?)

It is a good indicator fan-wise because it doesn't include streams and downloads.
