BTS NEVER SCAMMED THEIR FANS FOR TICKET SALES

  • I'm applauding BTS to never abusing their power to scam their loyal fans and holding their foot down.

I saw so many discourse and complaints about Ticketmasters for using tactics like 'Dynamic Pricing' and 'VIP packages' to earn more profits in ticket sales. But this won't happen if the artists and their management didn't enable it.

    What is Dynamic Pricing?

With concerts and other live events underway again, your wallet might be hurting — partially because of Ticketmaster dynamic pricing.

In the simplest sense, dynamic pricing — also called market pricing — involves cost shifts that are triggered by changes in demand. When demand for a product or service increases, the price goes up. When demand diminishes, prices fall. Straightforward supply-and-demand, right?

Hopefully, BTS and HYBE will never agree to this tactic made by Ticketmasters just to inflate their ticket sales.

Bottomline: YES, Ticketmasters are suckers and is a greedy corporation, but the artists and their management have a choice to not participate in it!

  • I wonder if Ticketmaster makes it difficult for artists to disable this. I have trouble believing all of them want to hit their fans wallets this way. Are there upsides to not disabling it? I don't understand why more artists don't do this.

All of them are in this together. But, I will ofcourse side eye their Management/Label and Ticketmasters more. There are still some artists who don't participate in this like Ed Sheeran and Coldplay.

  • I watched the john oliver episode when it aired and it seemed that not just ticket pricing but also venue and live performance management as well since ticketmaster merged with live nation the biggest live performance management company so not only do they have a monopoly on the tickets but on the concert performance side as well

Yep. They're the Disney of the music scene. In fact Disney might have to go through them too :pepe-peek:

Yes, touring is fucking expensive to produce esp post-covid. So many hands in the cookie jar which prompted the labels to set higher pricing and participate in these tactics. Its more forgiving & understable if these artists are playing in the arena, but artists like Taylor, Bad Bunny and The Weekend are playing in stadium, so there's no reason to inflate the sales so much.

Usually, after all these expenses, fees and taxes— labels and artists only get to share 25% - 35% of the gross revenue. This % can get higher to 45% if the artists are playing in bigger capacity, set higher pricing and depends on the caliber of the artists. Concert is expensive.

Back in the 90's, Pearl Jam (at the time one of the biggest groups in the world) thought to go up against Ticketmaster and run their tour alone without TM.
TM basically bullied and blackmailed not Pearl Jam, but the venues Pearl Jam wanted to perform at into not accepting the shows. They had to find non standard venues like sports fields that resulted in lows of cancelled shows and a big loss for Pearl Jam financially.

Basically, in the US Ticketmaster has a monopoly. You want to tour with TM and it becomes a lot more difficult.

For groups like BTS that aren't US based, it's a little easier to fight them by just avoiding them, but for US acts in particular, or acts covered by US labels, it's a fight not worth fighting.

They are a monopoly. Should be hit with Anti-trust laws.

But BTS works with them too... so they have fought with them? Every US concert they've held has been sold through Ticketmaster - many of the European ones too. And it's not like they've only had concerts at venues affiliated with Ticketmaster once or twice, They've done it many many times, as recent as this year.
