Why did Yuta from NCT 127 say this about 2BADDIES?

Why is SM pressuring NCT 127 to do well when they are already doing well? Did they really expect more from them?

If you're going to pressure them and expect more from them, at least give them better promotions. The management for 2BADDIES have been poor like album mistakes (excluding Doyoung in one of the albums), the comeback show technical difficulties with fans fainting and poor organization of world tour. And also the song. If SM wanted casuals to like the song too, they could have chosen another song. I don't understand what SM expected from NCT 127 for Yuta to even be saying this.

    Approved the thread.
  • SM does not help them yet expects extraordinary results, same situation with aespa and their promotions this year.

  • They are on a point in their career when sm said those things to old groups as a ultimatum, specially bags as they have to start enlisting and the company knows they don't have much time left

  • i think sm is getting frustrated that almost all of the big companies have acts that are global representatives of kpop - doing very well internationally, except for them. they see the results 3rd gen groups achieve in those other companies & expect the same or similar for their 3rd gen groups, but they don't know/have the experience how to actually accomplish that. nct music just won't work globally like others are doing, so sm keep putting pressure on the boys is so stupid

ps: i understood "the song doesn't work out well" as doing well globally - because even sm has to see that korea just isn't interested in bgs atm.

  • Is he talking about 2 baddies? If yes, gosh who brainwash that poor man to think that this song called 2 Baddies with cringe lyrics is amazing? Nobody will listen to that in repeat except the most devoted fans in their fandom.

  • I have come to the conclusion that sometimes companies deliberately exclude a member as a form of free promo. What else will get a whole fandom tweeting and trending like missing out a member? It happens often enough in kpop to feel like a lazy marketing tactic.

  • it does make sense to have expectation, SM is a huge company and all their past boy groups got hits and public recognition, they focused a lot on NCT 127 from their debut until like last year so they were pushed quite a lot but never reached the popularity of their predecessors

SM need to give them better songs if they want better results and NCT concept is only bringing every idol under them down, as for promos, the promos this year were even worst than before for everybody in SM, not sure what happened

  • SM has continually put pressure on NCT 127 for not being as successfully as quickly as EXO (many members have talked about this - Taeyong talked about how he they berated him for being a shitty leader because the group was not successful) in addition to what they see in social media (many Neos are active on Twt and other platforms).

Even tho they have now reached success, they still very much don’t believe it. Even at the US shows, they were honestly shocked to see the passionate fanbase, and this is the reason the sold out dome shows and the shows at Jamsil had them teary-eyed.

Although they remain one of the top moneymakers, I agree that SM doesn’t treat them that way, between the sloppy tour and the album ridiculousness, but these are the same cracks that showed when EXO were at the top of their game. If you become too successful at SM, they will stop getting a fuck about you.

As for the music, people can talk as much as they want about not having a GP-friendly song but that’s not actually what the public wants from this specific group. When they have launched softer tt/singles, they have not done very well for the group - it’s the noisier tracks that have fared better (Limitless, Touch, Superhuman and Highway to Heaven never charted. [granted, the last two were part of a Korean boycott].) I think they thought that launching a softer tt, more traditional track like Favorite might get a different response but it didn’t.

2 Baddies is a very Neo track, like the songs that have charted, but less polarizing and experimental than Sticker, so I get Yuta’s point here: Sticker was too hard and Favorite was too soft and they thought 2 Baddies was just right.

For reference, Kick It is their longest charting song, followed by Sticker and 2 Baddies (which are tied), then Favorite, then Punch. No other 127 songs charted on Melon. Cherry Bomb, Regular and Simon Says all chatted very briefly on Gaon charts. Again, these are all Neo songs. (Regular is probably the only non Neo track out of the charted songs.)

Nah i agree with that. About the other companies doing well internationally thing, especially HYBE.

    HYBE got

: BTS who is a 5x Grammy nominee + everything else

: Le sserafim debut on the Billboard 200 was at #14

: NewJeans I don't keep up with them but I'm sure they doing great among international fans for sure

: Seventeen been winning American awards with their performances and getting invited to American talk shows and interviews a lot

: TXT this comeback got #4 on the Billboard 200, performed at Lollapalooza (first kpop group), won Best Asian Act at the MTV awards this year

: Enhypen charted #6 this year on Billboard 200, performed at Grammy museum, had concerts at 10k-18k arenas for their FIRST tour, went viral with Polaroid love this year

: Fromis_9 had one comeback this year, but with that alone got 5 music show wins

: Zico song "new thing" went viral all over Korea and got #1 all over Korean charts this year

SM definitely is upset and frustrated😗

  • SM hasn't got any clue. First and foremost SM should give them better songs.
