Why are idols nowadays no longer going to college?

A few years ago, every idols take them, even Somi, Eric from The Boyz,… Now we learn Minji, Wonyoung, Liz, Jungwon are not taking college entrance exams. Why aren’t idols nowadays going to college?

This is another stupid question to be asked. The keyword is 'this year'. They can always take it another year and still continue their studies. A lot of idols doing it.

why go after young females like that?

all of the blackpink members didn't go to college - all of them didn't even finish high school - yet, they are the biggest gg out there. people study to make money, these top idols make money regardless

Why would they when being an idol is much more profitable.

I'm a univervisty graduate with one of the highest degrees and I dont make 1% of what they are making.

But female idols before always take the exam right away. Arin from Oh my girl did a Vapp packing food for college exam, Irene did the same and many other idols. Suddenly this year we have many idols not doing it so I want to know why it change

Therse no way you can finish college in any meaningful way when working fulltime as a celebrity at the same time, so either its some degree none cares about or cheating.

Most of the successful idols that took the exam after high school never planned on going, it was just for show or to set a good example or to be more relatable. Not sure why that changed recently. I'm actually surprised about Wonyoung; she seemed like the type of idol that would do it to set an example and be relatable. Maybe they're just too busy.

Eh? There are a lot of groups who didn’t. Only 1 member of NCT went to college.

Most people have already given fitting answers but I'd also like to add that more and more young people are choosing to put off going to college immediately or not go to college at all. College is not the be all end all and quite frankly I'm glad the perception toward it is changing.

I think you have to consider how much it takes to both go to school and also have these ridiculous "slave labor" commitments that kpop idols do. As a matter of fact, in the US, many athletes come out early of college and go back to finish their degrees, it's often better to focus on one thing then give a half hearted effort on multiple things.

Because most of them now are rich so they don't need to. Male idols are more likely to stay connected to education because it lets them fend off enlistment for a while.

I heard that due to covid college places are much harder to get into or there are limited places so only those that either 1. Have really good grades and dedication or 2. Good contacts get in.

Hardly many idols are good at studies to get in outside of things like drama and colleges are probably trying to crack down on favored students.

Plus for the last decade or so it's not just everyday people that audition to be idols, more and more rich kids are training and with that kind of money they don't need college or even the idol life, they're set for years if not life

Simple answer is Kpop has grown A LOT and these idols are making quite a lot of money. It just does not make any sense to spend time on college if they're already doing what they love and set for life financially.

If they want to remain active for decades they should be focusing on acting, variety etc. instead of college. Even the very few that manage to have long and successful solo music careers (Taeyeon, IU) still do acting and variety.

College just isn't anywhere on the list of priorities for the more successful idols. Nor would they have any extra time for it, they are being worked to the bone.

I think that everyone needs education, including popular people. If a person is popular and beautiful, but not smart, doesn't it spoil the impression of him/her? For me it is unacceptable.
