I don't hate the song but i feel like it tried to be something like Rookie, and that was lame

Power Up was released in 2018, in the timeperiod that RV got a massive amount of hate poured out over them - I'd say the most of their career, and it diminished again mid-2019 - with Netizenbuzz releasing an RV bashing article practically every few days.

Everything they did, incl their comeback, got heightened levels of criticizing and shading, I'm guessing a lot of K-pop fans let themselves get bandwagon dragged into the RV and Power Up shading back then.

Also, Peekaboo and Bad Boy comeback cycle had a lot of K-pop fans get interested in RV and start stanning them, but those were more on the Velvet side of RV styles: those who expected a Bad Boy 2 comeback were probably disappointed when they came back with a Red, Summer song like Power Up.
