Rank the Kpop metrics

  • What are all the key Kpop metrics for measuring a Song's/Album's success and how to rank them in importance?

Let me throw out, based on the little I know.

    1. Melon Unique Listeners - 1st 24 hours, total ULs in the first year? (Least affected by mass streaming tactics)

    2. Circle(Gaon) Digital Points - 1 year since release

    3. Circle(Gaon) weekly digital peak

    4. Weeks in the top #100 of Circle(Gaon)

    5. Spotify Streams - Internationally

    6. YouTube views (Seems Ad-views 30 sec views are used to inflate numbers, so not reliable)

    7. Hanteo Physical Album sales - this is very important for profits, but least important for general popularity, since it is highly fan driven, with bulk buying, crowd sourcing etc.

  • Key kpop metric for measuring a song’s what? Is it popularity or success??

  • Just say Views are 20% less than the total for all groups.

At the end of the day all groups pay for ads, sure bigger companies can afford to pay more, but still. The difference is not huge.

Now paying view farms, that may be an issue, I do not know how YT deals with that.

  • Yes. Success is making profits but does not necessarily mean popularity whiles popularity could translate into success.

Agreed, for a nugu group on low budget, selling 100K albums itself or even charting in top 100 would be considered a success.

And similarly physical sales while best for profits, are poor indicator of popularity, since they are entirely fandom driven.

    So maybe Success = Profitability+Popularity.

  • I’m trying to combine popularity with success

    1. Country Charts

    2. International streams: AM>Spotify>Youtube

    3. Album sales: Due to the sales gimmicks it’s the least authentic metric but it does still show success

  • I've be meaning to make something similar for a while

what about other like merch sales and touring and cfs?

Sure add it and rank it.

    Concerts definitely are important

    Merch sales are like physicals.

With CFs we are moving away from the music, then next would be acting fees and appearance fees etc

    Real estate?

    I rather not.
