Fans care about k-charts the most because they are the only thing in KPOP that's still competitive

  • Spotify? - BTS has no competition amongst boy groups, BP has no competition amongst girl groups

YouTube? - BTS and BP playground

Album sales? - Declining metric of popularity, but BP will soon sell 2.5-3M, breaking Aespa's record, Aespa will come back again to break their record, and so the cycle continues. Nothing really interesting there.

Korean digitals are literally the only area of KPOP not completely dominated by 1-2 groups, and therefore the only interesting part to KPOP fans. It's funny that a #2 or #3 position on one chart in just 1 country means a group is over while they are still selling 2-3 times and earning global streams 4-5x the numbers of groups who have supposedly ended them though...

Can we please stop acting like Twice isn't still top of the game when it comes to physicals? I mean please.

  • Gg stans have always placed a uselessly high importance on melon. If you think this is new then I have some news for you.......

  • Think it's more that Ifans put what the Korean public thinks on a pedestal.

I think it's partly this whole selling of the culture that goes along with kpop. I mean, what other music makes fans feel like they have to learn a foreign language , bowing, honorifics and such. It's a pretty interesting mind fuck what kpop as a genre and community have managed to do to folks actually.

This post is so unintentionally funny. Of course 3rd gen tour better when they already were established before Corona striked. Some users here istg.

That's mainly because they release so much. They're on their 11th mini album, most groups don't even have that many mini + full albums combined.

Meanwhile many ggs have been outselling Twice on a per album basis. Iz one debut had 500k which was more than most Twice albums at the time, BP will have 2 1million+ sellers, Aespa have a 500k+ and 1m+, Ive have 900k and so on. Twice has only recently gotten close and now passed 1m with their last 2cbs

If these groups released at the same rate as Twice they would easily crush Twice sales wise.

  • Youtube and spotify streams doesn't mean anything with blinks using streaming farms

They are pushing all things Korean.

Pretty creepy how many young girls think oppa is a nice guy like in the dramas.

What's wrong with locals learning Korean and Korean culture? I feel like this comment represents American arrogance. Every country on Earth, from 1st world European and Japanese to rustbucket third world countries, has learned English and Western culture, so why is it wrong for locals to branch out and learn about Korea?

It is easier to outsell per album basis when you don't have albums.

I was speaking more that they sell the idea that you can only really be part of the community if you know these things. I mean, music should be about music no?

Calm yourself. Don't pass out, you might miss your girls on the VMAs lmao. As I said above it's a selling of the culture, think about how much has to be learned to interact in this community. I mean, As an English speaker, do I need to learn the culture or speak French to appreciate a song like La Vie en Rose? or do I have to learn Spanish and live in Puerto Rico to enjoy Despacito?

There's nothing wrong with learning a new language or learning about a culture that's not yours, but kpop makes it a necessity. Kpop is the only music genre that pushes everything else but the music lol

This is true, but it's partly because they are so prolific. 7 albums, 11 EPs, and re-issues.
