1. If Irene was rude to some, she was also supported as not rude by many - it is very much possible that people behave in a range of behaviour, very common.
2. Rudeness is a matter of perception. Can easily be mistaken.
3. Even so, Irene apologized.

Finally, if in this show she is being shown as polite and "cleaning up her reputation", then good. It means she/SM is taking the effort to make amends.
