Honest thoughts on Kep1er?

They are doing ok with sales but their songs don’t seem to be doing as well as previous Produce group songs and they haven’t produced an it girl like Somi/Wonyoung/Sejeong,… What’s your thoughts on Kep1er? Is their music good? Do you like the members? Is there anything they can do better?

Domestically it hurt them that the show didn’t do well compared to the previous shows. The members don’t really stand out imo. Chaehyun is supposed to be the center? She looks plain in comparison to previous produce centers and doesn’t have the charisma. And personally i don’t vibe with their title tracks. They shouldn’t have gone to queendom, felt like it was a waste of time.

Talented group but their company is a mess so it's unfortunate. but on the bright side they actually have a fandom despite the bad management and music so they're doing better than nugu groups at least...

The album is really good. The title is so-so. The chorus is so nice and catchy but the rest of the song is just not interesting. The other songs are much better, it’s a good summer album for me.

The members they push the most and choose to be the face of kep1er are just not popular. Don't think the other members are that popular either but at least they are way more popular than them in comparison between kep1er members.

I have seen comments like "because they are most talented". I think we all know that talent does not equals popularity in kpop.

They are the most popular produce group internationally though

I like them, their synergy as a group really improved this comeback

Wadada was awful and up has a good chorus, but boring other parts. The center is boring and the only ones that looks popular are Yujin, Hiyyih, Xiaoting and Hikaru, yet company decides to push the other 4 koreans and they aren't it

The company is clearly broke because all of their costumes, MVs, and sets look basic, cheap, and simple. Add to that their songs are pretty lackluster/lacking impact, their vocal line is pretty much nonexistent, dance line is not utilized enough (especially since the majority of the group are strong dancers), they have the wrong girl as center (it should clearly be Xiaoting, Hikaru, or even Yujin/Bahiyyih if the center has to be Korean) and you have a recipe for disaster.

MVSK also should have been the debut song and Up! has a nice chorus but is otherwise forgettable. Seems the company has no idea what to do with the group.

The most important thing in Kpop is to have a member that the public can latch onto. Even if your group is subpar, as long as you have someone the public can recognise, the team can survive, and maybe get bigger in the future. There's teams like Astro with Eunwoo or AOA's Seolhyun, where the public knows that one person, and look at how Astro now has more members eventually making it onto TV variety shows like Moonbin etc on Knowing Bros and Running Man.

Kep1er just don't have that one person like OP has mentioned. No Somi/Sejeong/Daniel/Wonyoung. To this day I still have no idea how Chaehyun won. Nothing against her, but the whole time it's been Dayeon/Hikaru/Xiaoting trio and then in the last round she came up top. It's not like she has that charismatic or one stage that blew up. She has a soft tone but it's far from impressive. Maybe they'll have some of the young members glow up in the future and they'll gain more notoriety.

Kepler literally has one of the best title songs released this year in Wadada, lookin like a SOTY contender. Their B side Le Voyage is also amazing.

But they are missing the stan attractors that made Izone and IOI stand out like crazy. Somi was crazy popular and has continued that popularity to this very day, she is the only Produce girl to rival Wonyoung in terms of commercial marketability and GP popularity.

And Izone literally had almost every member be a stan attractor, it is the most loaded GG in history. Imagine a group where Wonyoung, Yujin, Eunbi and Yuri werent even considered pretty enough to make the official visual line ffs.

Letting rando Joe Public decide the most important part of a Kpop group (the members) is a recipe for failure. Pros are paid a shit ton of money to carefully select and put together groups, when you're investing millions in a group, you shouldnt be letting nobodies on the Internet determine your future livelihood. This is Kepler's handicap.

CJ needs to start emphasizing Bahi, XT, Hikaru and Yujin, those are the only ones i can identify and that stand out, promote them well and you could see more acceptance by the broader Kpop fanbase and even some GP.

It's not going to get anywhere close to SOTY by any measurable criteria.

they're not a cohesive group and aside from Xiaoting/Hikaru/Bahiyyih they lack standout members.

I like Chaehyun's voice a lot but she's not center material in terms of charisma and while Dayeon is very talented her vocal colour isn't very pretty, so I don't think she should get so many lines either. Her chorus in their new MV (forgot the name) could have been done by Yeseo for example.

I would say they're a great example of why rigging makes for better groups than actual people voting, but then they'd probably have Dayeon as the center and I think that'd still disappoint after the likes of Somi, Daniel, Wonyoung. The contestant pool was just not there compared to the Produce series, I mean if you look at the line-up of IOI, W1, Izone...so many potential stan attractors in those groups compared to kep1er.

Man really sneaked Eunbi and Yuri in there lol. No offense, but you throw Eunbi and Yuri into most groups, they would not be considered to be in an "official visual line". Even in Kep1er, they would not be ahead of Xiaoting, Yeseo, Chaehyun etc. Yujin definitely glowed up in IVE so I'll give you that.

Funny how suddenly bahiyyih is considered as the standout member now. Is it because she is the most popular member? Because I still don’t see her as the standout or stan attractor of the group.
