Recently saw BugAboo putting out some training content on 1theK.
Groups need to constantly show their presence, even when not actually releasing songs/promoting them. Of course the other extreme is Blackpink who only show presence, rarely songs.
But in Kpop - presence is far more important than musical content. If the company fails to do that well, the group is doomed.
However, the company can at least work with the members, for them to do so individually, which they can do on SM, to decent extent and lower costs.
Eng subs point is valid, again if members can and are allowed, they can take it up.
It is all about self-promotion, if your management is ineffective to do it for you.

80k sales is plenty good enough and they're still growing. Let's say they end up with 180k sales in two comebacks this year, that's over 2 million in gross revenue. That's easily enough to pay for their dorm rents and other living costs, MV production, song production, marketing and PR and training costs. Other groups have survived for years with much less.
And charting is honestly irrelevant to most groups from a pure financial perspective, at least in the beginning. It's much more important to build up a loyal fanbase and get those album and merch sales gassed up. Later, by year 3 or 4, if your group can break out digitally, that would be ideal because it would help jumpstart the members' solo and post group careers and get them lined up for individual endorsement deals.
