What do you think is the real reason SM didn’t let Lami and SM rookies girls debut?

  • They introduced the SM Rookies a long time ago. Almost all the boys except one debuted in NCT. People expect Lami to be the next it girl like Yoona and the group to be SNSD’s successor. Yet at some point, the girls left one by one and the only Rookies girl remaining is Ningning. The situation is a reverse from SM Rookies boys. What went wrong? Why did SM introduce them early just to let them go eventually?

  • maybe the girls disliked the ai concept and sound sm is going for? maybe they were tired of being in that trash company for that long?

  • there are too many possibilities. Remember that aespa debut has been pushed back several times, maybe they're tired waiting for that long and decided to leave? Aside from Yiyang who is still active in c-ent, none of them continue to pursue idol life as far as we know. Maybe sm feels like they don't suit the concept that sm planned for aespa? Maybe they lost the internal competition amongst the trainees?

  • yiyang and lami lacks talent. The rest doesn't have the visual to fit in aespa

  • We don't know.

But I think there were plans to debut a group around 2017-2018, and for some reason that got cancelled.

There's also a huge difference in debuted female vs male artists that debuted the past 5-7 years. Since 2015 20-25 male SM artists have debuted with the many NCT groups, while only 4 female SM artists.

    The gap is phenomenal.

  • They lost internally to other trainees clearly. First some of them would have been candidates for red velvet - they did not make it but yeri did instead. Then once girl crush became more popular and aespa's concept was decided on - They did not fit vibe wise. Plus honestly if you are going to have only 4 members you need a high level of skill - which in comparison to Ning Ning and winter vocal wise they lacked. Karina trumps them with visuals and charisma and Giselle speaks English+ japanese so also would have been an easy pick over them for a group targeted at international fans

  • I think they changed their gg's concept af the last minute and auditioned new girls.

  • Probably tired of waiting. These girls were trainees for almost 10 years. Lami and the other girls were in the Red Velvet Happiness debut MV and that was in 2014. :pepe-life-support:

  • No idea, but I'm glad they waited and debuted the current line up.

  • Remember smngg was reported to debut in 2018, but sm pushed the debut back.

This gg was supposed to be something near cute concept that was the trend back then for g

But by 2018 this trend was already changing, mostly because of Blackpink but even other ggs started doing more girl crush and teen crush things

Blackpink was really the first gg since 2ne1 who appealed to international and Korean fans almost equally. They struck gold with the badass magnificent larger than life attitude but also girly feminine looks fashion and moves. Imo this hadn’t been really done before blackpink, 2ne1 was more just in your face badass and 4min was almost badass and a bit sexy at the same time.

Now whenever girl crush is done it’s almost always the badass but also quite feminine kind that bp popularized

Asia in general now prefers girl crush and darker concepts to cute concept. I think sm say this trend changing and decided to change arepa cocnept a bit, so the sm rookie girls who fitted this once cute concept didn’t fit the new edgy ai thing. So they got replaced

  • They're tired of waiting and some prob didn't make the line up like lami her original position since a kid was the visual but she didn't grow up like sm wanted prob.

  • because the formula of 4 people works

  • Yeah that's what I meant too. I used to watch these girls performances with nct members, they were supposed to be a cute gg but later they decided to change the concept to appeal the international audience and I don't think any of them fitted the concept except ningning.

I don't believe they all left, after all its sm where success is guaranteed.

  • Almost all of them couldn’t carry a tune to save a life especially Lami her singing was dreadful. You know you can’t learn how to sing if even sm can’t teach you…

Their vocal performances were actually pretty good.

But they had a totally different vibe from Aespa, and would probably have been a totally different type of group.

  • They lost to competition. New trainees came with better skills and fit to the image the company is looking for.

  • Giselle? Skill? I gotta laugh. Let's be honest she's only there as an english speaker.

She gad been a choir member for four years. Let's not discredit that. Sge had more vocal experience than the rest of the srg members and that is prior to training. Aside from Koeun, the remaining srg members in the list is below Giselle vocally. Giselle can write her own lyrics, might not be the best but is by far a better rapper than the rest of tge undebuted members and yes she's an english speaker. A very big advantage against the others. That and with the rest of her attributes will surely put her at an advantage over the other competition. The only area she lacks in compared to others is her dancing but that alone cannot overshadow the benefit she will contribute to the group.
