Basically this. Most idols are great performers and musicians. Some, like Jonghyun for example, are also an artist.

However, that doesn't make one more or less talented. Not all idols can be writers or producers, just like not all idols can be main dancers or actors or rappers or whatever. The whole my fave is better than yours because they write music is so dumb. When is the last time a fandom war broke out about western artists regarding who uses more or less writers and producers on their albums?

it is an incrediibly feel good song. I have a lot of non kpop friends who enjoy it a lot so I'm not surprised a lot of other idols like it as well.

It depends on their sales, however east Asia and South-Korea itself are more important seeing as they have a realistic chance of becoming a local brand ambassador, get paid for appearances, etc. So when it comes to scandals and image, keeping a good image in South Korea (and East-Asia) will be prioritized over whatever western fans think.

It has been reported that SHINee were asked which song they would like to cover from another group while promoting their new album on Kim Shinyoung's radio show. Taemin suggested BTS' Dynamite, as he likes the song a lot.

I would be so hyped!!! Both groups are amazing at what they do, plus after seeing SHINee's cover of IU, I want more soft and wholesome interactions between idols (instead of all the drama).

Dynamite had more staying power tbh. It still gets airtime pretty often and it's a lot of fun and happy vibes to blast it when driving to work. LGO is a beautiful song, but it has less of that addicting instant happiness, making it less attractive for none kpop fans from what I've noted among friends.

I mean, you don't come for Taylor as a person and think you'll get away with it...

You don't have to like her music, but why is it okay to give her shit about her exes, while the weekend gets celebrated when writes songs about his exes? I don't necessarily agree with the original statement either way. Sure impact (as hard as it is to define) can be meaningful, but your faves won't survive if they don't chart semi decently. In the end, groups who don't bring in any money usually die out pretty quickly. For example, Crayon Pop's Bar Bar Bar was a serious hype in Korea, however it never really translated in album sales and they have been on indefinite hiatus/disbanded for 5 years now.

This whole thread seems to try and define what "relevancy" entails, however that cannot be objectively defined. Anyway, people just really like to claim relevancy, impact, hype, etc when it comes to their faves as any good fanbase should.
