Idk if nj’s debut is similar to apink’s, but you got the timing of kpop’s chronology wrong lol. Apink debuted in 2011, while the sexy concept didn’t really explode on a wide scale until 2012 (pioneered by sistar) and reached its peak in popularity around 2013-2015. 2011 was still largely influenced by music trends like hiphop, autotune, etc. and the edgy, futuristic aesthetics a la 2ne1. But apink’s debut definitely was not following trends at the time

we gotta get reggaeton le sserafim back istg. All of their best songs never let the pace drop, but unforgiven kept droppin the beat out which is such a CLICHE. le sserafim thrives on MOMENTUM
yeah you got it spot on. unforgiven is a shining example of a song that keeps letting its momentum fizzle out and that never truly culminates in a satisfying payoff or climax or whatever to justify its jagged pacing. It’s not like with “anti-drop” songs wherein the more subdued beats serve a purpose and feel deliberately integrated into the overall vibe of the music in a polished and sleek manner; unforgiven with its southern twangs and cliches honestly just sounds kinda messy and somewhat empty to me and not in a good way

are we twins? that's my exact problems with Unforgiven. I hate the cowboy vibe/concept so much
For the 'unforgiven i’m a villain' part, I think they were trying to recreate 'Antititi' 2.0 but failed I hope they won't repeat the same mistake because version 2.0 of something will be never be as good as the original.
lol yeah it’s obvious they tried to make antifragile 2.0 with a similar “annoying” repetitive hook but didn’t achieve the intended results. I don’t have like a particularly strong distaste for cowboy concepts but I don’t love them either, and imo it’s hard to pull off this distinct “wild west” sound without reinventing the wheel and thinking outside the box, bc otherwise it just comes off as cliched and uninspired with all the cheesiness associated with that particular image. And like even if you listen to the instrumentals only, unforgiven as a song is a lot more disjointed and incohesive than antifragile, and lacks a strong common thread with consistent energy to tie it all together like antifragile did with the reggaeton influence. And the grating vocals/raps during the hook are just the cherry on top for unforgiven lol

This song is great on repeat. It doesn't have that annoying repetitive rap-talking that made Unforgiven age like milk for me
you’re talking about that “unforgiven i’m a villain” part repeated over and over right? it’s a shame that this was supposed to be the catchy earworm hook of the song bc it just sounds so grating on the ear lol and the cheesy cowboy motifs in the instrumental don’t help the song stick in the long run either. nile rodgers needs to go bc he brought nothing of note for lesserafim

anyone knows why the song is named like that??
eve ate the forbidden apple, psyche engaged in a forbidden affair with cupid, and bluebeard’s wife opened the forbidden room. these are all characters who couldn’t resist temptation and did the forbidden, hence the song’s lyrics, particularly the line “i wish for what’s forbidden”

Learning AAVE is not necessary to communicate to black Americans and it just comes off as mocking if you weren't brought up in it. Just use normal English. Especially considering how frequently aave is memeified and adopted into "pop culture language"
Even if you're into black culture, picking up on AAVE is just weird and unnecessary. There are plenty of black people and artists that don't AAVE, including most of the ones they cite as influences. There are also plenty of idols that rap in English without attempting AAVE
Does it really? i mean you could make an argument that mimicking aave might come off as trying too hard to sound “cool” and to blend in with the “hip” crowd when you’re not originally from the culture, but i assure you most people adopting this speech pattern aren’t doing it to mock black americans, they do it to sound cool only lol. why would they mock it when they tried so hard to learn it and use it as if it’s natural to them? Just doesn’t make sense, at all
In fact i’ve seen firsthand non-black poc kids in english class deliberately continue to speak in aave despite their teacher’s attempt to correct them with “proper” grammar and pronunciations, bc those kids’ first exposure to the language comes from social media within the black community. They want to use aave bc they like it, not bc they want to mock it lol.
