Yes that's right, it came out in 2019. I guess we're in disagreement about what constitutes a "4th gen song." My understanding is that such a term refers to a song released by a Fourth Generation artist.
I mean, yeah lol I have my own thoughts (probably unpopular thoughts!) about generation divisions. But yeah, I'd put "Picky Picky" on a late third gen list too. It's too popular to ignore in my opinion.

"Picky Picky" released in 2019 if i rememeber correctly, so I count it as a 4th gen song. I have all sorts of issues with the generation divisions, but it's post-(G)I-dle and -Itzy debut which is where I remember the 4th gen line being drawn according to most fans

I hand counted the list on Daisuki:

Weki Meki. RIP. Seven years isn't bad though. It's a good run.
However, I can't say anything too good about them as artists. I was always down on them as a group. They're hit "Picky Picky" is one of the worst big songs that I've ever heard. If I'm making a list of early gen 4 songs that people getting into K-pop need to listen to, I'm obviously including it, but it's such a bad song. I do like "Dazzle Dazzle" and my favorite song of theirs is "Tiki-Taka(99%)." I did listen to their entire discography apart from their recent CoinciDestiny, but I was not able to get into their music.
Best wishes to Elly, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy in whatever they decide to do next. Seven years isn't nothing, so hopefully they have made some connections to leverage into future choices like school, modeling, or even business endeavors.

They are everywhere, their songs and their images and advertisements.
You cannot go into any part of Seoul and not be hit by a wave of NewJeans.
So any "brand reputation index" that not only doesn't rank them at the top easily, or even worse, outside the top 30, is a total joke.
NewJeans has so much power in Korea that their covers of Japanese songs while they were performing in Japan went so viral that the songs by the original JAPANESE artists began charting in Korea.
Yes, they're a top group and the top female 4th gen act, so they'll naturally be everywhere. If there's any decline that will happen, it won't be seen on a brand reputation ranking but will be noticed over a longer period of time. Since people can take temporary hits and still get deals (the hits are assumed to be temporary), them falling off of the reputation rankings isn't a big deal, assuming its metrics are even legit.

Soft power is used to describe a country's influence across other countries. The division is usually split between "soft" and "hard" powers. Hard includes things like military strength, power projection, etc. Soft usually describes cultural influences such as anime from Japan or American rap and pop music. The popularity of K-pop and K-drama are examples South Korean soft power. The strength of a country's soft and hard power varies among countries, and being strong in one area doesn't mean a country is strong in another. For example, China has a lot of strong regional hard power in east Asia, but it's much weaker in the west (because it can't project its power), and its soft power is also very weak relative to decades past.
Blackpink and NewJeans have brand recognition outside of South Korea, so when South Korea wants to attract foreigners, they may use K-pop to attract foreigners to visit and will use groups like Blackpink or NewJeans to advertise. If they wanted, get more visitors from Kazakhstan but only BTS was popular there, then you'd really only see BTS in any adverts.
None of OP's videos or Twitter actually show NewJeans's brand recognition within South Korea though. Those ads are targeting foreigners, so it's an example of NewJeans's brand recognition outside of South Korea.

Yeah, K-pop blew up and the biggest groups of course contributed to South Korean soft power on the music side. South Korean soft power also increased due to greater visibility from their film industry too. Blackpink, being one of the bigger groups of that boom period, would obviously contribute to South Korean soft power. You don't need a news report to tell you that, though

In 2007, there were about 56 possible music show wins in one year.
In 2010, 150.
In 2016, 231.
In 2023, 255.
In 2024 to date, 161.
It is easier now more than ever to get a music show win. It's still difficult because many awards can be swayed by the size of the fanbase, but it's not 2007 or 2010 anymore either. Getting a first win for a non-big 4 (who's guaranteed to get a win really) is a huge deal of course. I would always remember my first win, especially if it took my a long time to get one (eg Dreamcatcher).
But I would trade away all my wins for a Gold Disc daesang for Album of the Year for example. I'd probably negotiate keeping one music show win for the daesang, but I would trade even that one.
Only MAMA, Golden Disk and Melon (after 2017) are considered to be major
The rest are bullshit awards , given like candies by the organizers who want more famous names to be in their events
At least both sides can agree with GDA lol

When she releases a song better than "Whistle" than I could maybe make an argument for that. I don't even think she matches BABYMONSTER's best at this point.
-
I'm giving you two photos since they stand in same order
from the left: J, Sieun, Seeun, ISA, Sumin, Yoon
My rankings actually flip flopped between pictures lol I guess the one I found the the best looking more consistently between pictures is Sieun, so I voted for her.
In general, I find Yoon to be the most attractive one but not from these photos.

Sad to hear but that's how idol life goes. While Youngseo is going to just be 20 soon, Jiwoo is about to be 23. It might be time for her to pivot. It must be devastating for her to get so close a few times now to groups with such attention. I mean, idols her age and older debut still (3piece members, and Astell members are recent examples; Katseye and BADVILLAIN also have an individual older than Jiwoo), but it's getting rougher.
Do we think that Jiwoo debuts in a nugu?

Hyo doing Hyo thing

It probably means nothing. Babymonster is the successor group. It would just mean that MEOVV is more popular.
-
Meovv. An interesting choice. Are these types of names just in with gen alpha Koreans? As long as the music is good, they can name the group "(d)-og sh1t" for all I care

I like Lisa's voice. I just wish her songs were better. "New Woman" would be good if I could understand her English (maybe it's the effects of production, or maybe I'm just old and losing my hearing but it's only happened with this one song so...).
Her voice is something that's never bothered me. It usually blends nicely with whatever song she puts out, or has so far anyway.
-
The song is full English, except Rosalia's part, but technically she's singing the same thing in Spanish.
The autotune messed up their voice, but let's be real, neither of them can sing, so this is the only thing they can do.
Without the MV, this is song can't stand on its own.
The it needs to go to flop. If I can't understand you in English when you sing in English, then there's no point.
If I want to hear songs that I don't understand the lyrics to as I listen, I might as well listen to K-pop
-
Blop.
Listened on Spotify, so this is my first impression: Probably Lisa's best song or second best, but this is my first time listening to Rosalia: does she mumble sing? or was that Lisa? There was a part where I could barely understand what they were saying, and I think there was an English and Spanish portion to the song? Or did I mishear Korean? It totally ruined the song for me to be honest.
Watched the YouTube. Lisa was mumble singing and rapping. I barely understood her. I could understand Rosalia more clearly with her Spanish part. I will just assume that Lisa was speaking Korean and I got all of the English parts down for now.
It was a ride.
