more to do with YG's ridiculous pricing of Born Pink, which cost $46.99 vs $25.99 for Between 1&2.

One factor is the price. But Born Pink is still selling in the US with the ridiculous price while Between 1 & 2 has stopped selling.

But its correct that Twice got the tracking period as advantage. Even with streaming. Blackpink did not release anything in 2021-2022 so Twice will really overtake them. However, after 2 months of dropping Born Pink, Blackpink already overtook Twice with their streams.

Its just the advantage of tracking period that Twice was able to do it.

Anyway, its still undeniable that Twice is starting to do well in the US.

I don't see her doing better than Rosé internationally(Snowdrop was not that of a big hit even internationally) but domestically she has a chance. She is still popular in SK. Sales will not be a problem with her big solo fandom too. Streams will be above average as a BP member.

Rosé has better and bigger initial peaks than Lisa. Higher charting in BBH100. #1 in both BB200. Though Lisa outstreamed eventually with Money. But still Rosé's international success is not far behind (esp China digital sales).

Jisoo's success might be in between Rosé and Lisa's.

There is still competition, yes. But not close enough. Just with streaming alone, no girl group surpassed nor even reached half of BP's streams globally.

Physical album sales is expected for Twice since they have a big fandom but it has already been set aside since BP reached 1M for one album only and 2M for Born Pink.

Twice might be the best selling album this year in the US but that's because YG priced Born Pink more than half of Twice's album price. And yet they are still selling in the US not far from Twice's. And their concert tours are selling out more than expected.

Domestically, BP is still doing better than Twice. And still chosen as No. 1 girl group.

Twice is growing outside SK definitely but not the way BP grew. BP is still growing but I agree that they've been kind of complacent whent it comes to their music releases despite still being accepted/liked by the public.

    BORN PINK ALBUM

#Top 10 in almost all music markets since there are still music markets not releasing charts

    KOREAN CHARTS

#PV & SD are still in Top 10

Album Sales (which honestly is not that important to me since this is like hoarding/mass buying-in the long run, it gets wasteful)

    2.5M

75k pure sales with 34M streams > 94k pure sales with 9M streams (GP clearly loves BP)

Is this a sign of flopping?

What other girl groups doing better in whole?

If you fave or other girl groups can top those achievements then maybe BP will not be the biggest girl group anymore.

But until that time, BP is still the world's biggest girl group in this decade.

Sometimes, acceptance is the key for a peaceful life.

billboard and their problems with album sales of kpop groups :starec:

Maybe because there are streaming giants(artists) who are not album sales giants. The West are more of streaming and not about album sales so Kpop artists pulling big numbers of sales are suspicious or questioning for them which is understandable because its not as if CDs are still a thing in this today's generation where streaming is more prominent. This is also the reason why BBH100 made some changes in their rules relating to album sales due to mass buying of album copies just to be able to chart. There should be a correlation of album sales and streams for it to be acceptable.

But that Spotify deal is a win-win situation for both Spotify and YG businesswise. Its not a tactic for fraud but a business deal that both companies gaining something.

Also, what's wrong with having digipacks though? Its still a business selling tactic. If you and your faves want better selling numbers, tell their company to follow the same tactic. And even without that digipack, BP was still able to reach more than 1M sales.

So when are you going to realize that charting #1 doesn't mean anything if you actually sold less than an artist that charted lower the previous month? Charts are a competition, not a constant variable. I know #1 sounds better on paper, and BP fans are literally all about gloating over the achievements of a group of strangers, but let's actually use our heads here.

Maybe because of the circumstances they are in, they were still able to achieve that #1.

    wdym didn't manage

twice literally outsold them with pure sales meanwhile bp had spotify deal and had to sell their $4 mcchicken albums in order to land #1 bc they were predicted to be #2?

it is hilarious since twice are considered flops and local gg only to outdo them in the end

Congrats to Twice for that but pure sales that do not match their streams is not something to brag that much especially in the West. Western artists are not even album sale giants but more of streaming giants. Only few are even able to balance their streams to their sales which BP is able to do. And the West is more of streaming than collecting CDs. You should actually think of the logic behind that 94k pure sales=9M streams. This means that there is a small number of Twice fans in the US to be able to achieve that. Meanwhile for BP 75k pure sales=34M streams means they just don't have their fans but the gp listening to their songs. Also, 75k for $50 album is amazing. YG is greedy but still able to reach that number. With the inflation going on, who in their minds would buy a $50 album that cannot even fill our stomachs? Only those who are hardcore CD collectors and fans.

For that Spotify deal you say, it is not something to be ashamed of. It is a wise thing to do honestly. Spotify and YG just took advantage of their capabilities and capacities by making that deal. Other companies should actually be jealous of this because having this deal is more of an advantage than a disadvantage moreso a negative thing.

BP has always been a streaming giant. Business wise, Spotify and YG did the right thing to create a deal since the deal is a win-win situation for both. And mind you, even without that deal, Pink Venom already gained big number of streams. Only when Born Pink was released that the deal took effect. And even after a week, Shut Down is still in Top 10 of Spotify Global. Consistency is there which is something other groups don't have.

Rosé definitely. She has wider ground compared to Nayeon.

And looking at Nayeon's solo results as of the moment, Rosé did better. For a English song, OTG did better even Gone charted higher in Kcharts. And -R- is still selling even until now. She also got locked China under her belt. 1.7m digital sales and still selling there? She is more loved there. And she did great internationally. She is still doing well especially that she is becoming one of the faces of luxury market. Her name will just grow bigger.

One thing Nayeon might have an edge is JYP might give her another solo song. Rosé might not be given that chance again if YG chooses not to.

Twice will never be a threat to BP western reign. Simply because, they do the bare minimun and still there on top.

Rosé's OTG did not have any remixes and yet it ranked #70.

Lisa's Lalisa did not have remixes, only instrumentals, and yet it ranked #84.

Those two songs also did not have radio spins and only pure sales and streams.

BP also entered BBH100 with Korean songs.

I'm not invalidating Twice's success in BBH100 but the fact that they entered with a full English song with many remixes and discount prices, its something to think about. Onces have been degrading BP for ranking high in BBH100 with Ice Cream for seeking "Western validation" and yet never thinking that they did it with D4 before. Onces are just eating their words now.

Anyway, Twice surely have fans in the West just like the rest of the Kpop groups. But BP is and will still be bigger in the West.

She was HEAVILY promoted there since the release day. Not only in Korea but in US too. She's new YG favorite.

Even without the promotions yet, OTG and Gone entered #3 and #5 respectively in Melon in just 8 hours. Plus, she didn't even had heavy promotions in SK except her music show performances. She only had what two variety appearances(Ugly Duckling and Knowing Brothers with Hyeri). She's just well-loved in SK.

And she only had 1 US show performance and that's in Jimmy Fallon. Those interviews she had happened a week after her solo was released.

Rosé did extremely well for a solo debut with two English songs. People seem to have forgotten that OTG and Gone both peaked at #3 and #5 respectively in Melon and were at 1 or 2 in other sites. It entered the Kcharts even without the promo yet and OTG stayed in Melon Top 100 for 6 months.

If not for IU and BG, she would have had gone higher. But despite that, she was on #3. For a solo debut facing those two, she did extremely well. I just hope that she'll release Korean songs next time because Knetz just love her voice so much.

I don't think mistreatment is the word. Its more of mismanaged. BP is a group with four member with huge individual popularity, relevance and following and yet YG wasn't able to manage each member well.

The girls could have been promoted to the areas they are popular for.

Jennie and Jisoo could have had variety shows.

Rosé could have had music shows.

Lisa has mentorship show in China.

Each girl has their areas of strength and YG wasn't able to take advantage of that.

As of the moment, Jennie has no guestings. Shs only have magazines. Thankfully, she is now having campaigns with Chanel.

Rosé just had her solo debut so her promotions were expected. But beyond that, she doesn't have anything except Global ambassadorships with YSL and T & Co. If not for these two brands, she won't have anything. There were collab and guesting offers for her and YG declined them.

Jisoo has Snowdrop coming. She has Dior Beauty.

Lisa just had her solo debut but she was in two seasons of YWY in China as a mentor. She has magazine covers like almost every month.

    YG is just so stupid.
