there is rumor that Girls Planet 999 season 2 will be broadcasted in 2026
I always believed that survivals with more trainees attract more attention
I-LAND 2 had just 24 girls
just 10 girls were in final
even with that pretty nice amount of people watched that final live
but to multiply it
what they need is to take 99-109 trainees
and make sure it will be a bigger group
one or pros of IZ*ONE was that group had tons of members
there was 12 girls
this means more drama in semi-final and then in final
the main goal should be to keep people interested as long as it's possible
so maybe create something like Universe Ticket had when Elisia got upgraded rank and made her a confirmed group member before finale
another good point would be like it was in survival shows where trainees got ranked in grades/classes and aimed to go up but some of them also got downgraded during show and later on needed to buckle up and fight for better spot to survive
Mnet should definitely bring back the larger lineups. Idk why they even have survival shows with a vast amount of girls only for 7 or 9 to make it…feels redundant.
Another 11 or 12 member gg for a survival would make waves.

And like I said, IZ*ONE was their last vastly successful girl group.

Tbh I have a feeling JYP will skip 5th gen and start 6th gen gg! Like what YG did with BM and 5th gen
They have 4 active gg and now Niziu have started promoting in Korea I can’t see them adding another group
I think their main goal is managing their current groups! Maybe 2027/28 will be the start of 6th gen
There were financial reports of them debuting a girl group this year or next year.
-
I think they definitely don’t have the same hype as they did when produce was in its prime.
Mnet hasn’t really been able to bounce back from the rigging scandal (at least when it comes to their ggs) so who knows what the future holds
-
Objectively speaking, their last BIG survival show girl group was IZ*ONE.
Their popularity in korea was unmatched and they also made waves in asia, especially japan.
Since Izone’s disbandment no other girl group from an mnet survival show has really been as influential and successful as Izone was. So do you think if mnet does another survival show, will they get a girl group as big as izone this time around or has their luck run out?

I think you’re misunderstanding my point.
Yes there’s nothing wrong with Twice still being successful this long into their career, I’m not disputing that.
But what I AM saying is that on JYP’s part, it’s a risk that none of their newer groups are getting as big or at least coming close to the heights of Twice. It’s not good that they’ll still be depending on Twice to comeback every year instead of one of their newer groups bringing in the profits.

You aren't given the reins, you take them. No one has been able to take the reins, which means they didn't deserve them. Given that Twice have already proven their ability to juggle all sorts of solo career ventures and still have regular comebacks as a group, this idea that they should be replaced "just because" is frankly preposterous. This isn't SM we're talking about here.
Twice being JYP’s main money maker when it comes to their ggs isn’t good either. Especially considering they’ve debuted two and neither one could bring in the profits Twice has.
-
Now before yall try and say “Well Niziu” I’m talking in terms of korean girl groups.
Anywayyyy…
JYP as a company are in an interesting position when it comes to their girl groups. Although they have ITZY and Nmixx, neither group has overcome TWICE or even come close to their impact and success.
All the other big companies have rolled out their new girl groups for the 5th generation (SM, Hybe, YG, Starship, etc) yet JYP hasn’t. And it could be bcs Nmixx is entering their 3rd year as a group but by the time Itzy were in their 3rd year, Nmixx had debuted.
Now that TWICE are entering their 10th year as a group, I think it’s high time that JYP debut their next large girl group and let them take the reins over from Twice. Twice has cemented themselves as kpop legends and yet they’re still the gg bringing in the most income for JYP. The Twice members are growing older and surely want to enter into other things like acting, modeling, and solos (which they’re doing already). Which won’t leave much room for actual comebacks.
So now, imo, with Itzy starting to debut as soloist and Nmixx growing older is the perfect time for JYP to debut another group with the “girls next door” feel that TWICE brought to kpop.
-
The difference is the timing of their debut.
Blackpink debuted in a time where innocent/cute girl groups were the trend so they obviously stood out with their hard hitting girl crush. + with them being the first YG gg in 7 years…they had a lot of hype.
Babymonster on the other hand, took forever to even release batter up after the whole survival show thing and then there was the issue with Ahyeon not even being with the group during the BU era (which is why YG media plays Sheesh as being the debut
)
Anyway, the point i’m making is that Kpop wasn’t missing a GG like Babymonster since there were already groups like Gidle, Aespa, Le Sserafim, and so on. They added nothing new to the industry whereas Blackpink did. That’s what they have that Babymonster doesn’t.
