Yes, back in 2015. It was also then that I realized Kpop was becoming boring/unappealing for me with the same old rehashed concepts/gimicks/sounds and with songs that barely had anything to say. Alot of my IRL multi kpop friends were mostly in it for the visuals, which made them go through alot of groups at one time, not really caring much for the music or the messages. Thought I would leave forever ..lol until I discovered BTS' songs in 2016 after a trip to korea. Started stanning in 2017 and they are still the only one since then.

Hmm.. BTS members probably coming to add to those numbers

LOL I laughed so hard reading the comments on here. For people who have been into kpop for a long time (11 yrs now for me), the answer to this question is quite obvious noh? All the energy wasted on this thread. But I guess I should not have expected anything less.. carry on then. BTS comeback soon to annoy more people lol.
-
lol only one group does well in both physical sales and charting local and globally and there are lots of opinions why - heck, I think even the other companies are still trying to look for the answer. But who knows, another group (might be a girl group) might emerge soon with the same strengths.
-
Congrats! Are there still limited seating in korea right now?

Honestly, as kpop fan for 11yrs now, I was surprised to see a group with this amount of hits (the longevity and the reach!). Like even alot of their b-sides are known by fans, locals and anti kpoppies alike lol (even the damn lyrics). And they rule both locally and globally and both streams and sales too!! I guess it also speaks strongly about their music and how they are as artists - that despite the varied genres- people still appreciate and support them.
Lol suddenly remembered when I becaame an army in 2017, the nasties on here mocking the boys saying they have no hits and will not amount to anything

Artists don't need to be signed to us label, albums just have to be sold/shipped... as long as there is demand and you sell enough to make the top 200. BP did it in june 2018 before signing with interscope.
I'm gonna guess yg are counting ktown4u and some other store as 100% american sales. Or maybe treasure genuinely sold a lot in the u.s, who knows
I think to chart on billboard, album must be officially distributed by a US label or something and Treasure albums are not for now.
Interesting to see kpop stans give this reasoning given that kpop groups (not alot) have been charting on the BB200 for years. Not that high but they have. Even BTS who had NO US distribution, NO deals whatsoever with US labels/companies, charted #26 on BB200 for their Wings album in 2016. So I guess people are just saying that if YG is promoting this group to be as big as they are, esp in the US, that it would have to reflect on the charts in the next days/weeks. Goodluck then!

Glad I have no problem with my faves. This has been an issue for kpop for years now. Sad that even on award shows and music shows with one to maximum 3 performances for most groups they still have to lipsync or even do live AR. And the fans always excuse this as it is the "norm" or a way for their faves to rest and preserve their vocal cords lol. That is their job and these shows are a chance to showcase all that they have trained and worked hard for - not to just show off the dancing or the poses or the "attitude". But eh, whatever. I don't think this will change much anytime soon. Goodluck OP!
Also lol speakin of 2nd gen, I've attended some of those groups' concerts and they were lipsycing there too.
-
Exactly ..that's why after years of holding this award show, one would wonder why the sudden change. Makes sense if certain factions would want more chance for other groups to have a nomination given that Idol music rarely is considered for the usual categories. This would also potentially limit certain groups from being nominated in other non kpop categories as well.
Anyways, it is what it is. Goodluck to everyone then.

Hmm, can I be honest? I also think that, like some have posted on here, kpop fans may not really have music as a priority with stanning. And with multis stanning alot of groups, they probably will have a hard time streaming albums of all their faves/groups. And we have also seen kpop stans do stockholm syndrome for their faves' title tracks. I doubt they'd put much effort for the filler/bsides.
I also think these companies put alot of filler/disconnected songs in albums thus fans don't really talk much about them -from what I experienced in my previous fandom.
That's why I find it cool to find certain groups (personally I only have one) whose entire discography is treasured and much discussed by the fandom.

Lol are they protesting against SM assuming that SM got 127 the daesang??
-
lol this question
as a long time kpop fan who left in 2015 because the industry was just getting repetitive and boring (and yes, including exo sorry - they sounded like all the other kpop grps that have gone before them) ..BTS was the one that pulled me back in. well, technically, aside from a few other kpop songs, their music is the only one from the industry that really moves me. and I actually listened to their discography for almost a year before I even checked out their faces, story etc. So I guess it was quite amusing to learn (back in 2017) that these 2 groups were even pitted together. so much history there. and now 5 years later, listening to their entire discography almost daily, here I am, still loving bts, their music and everything about them :)

LOL the troll party. 10 years into kpop, and a former SM artist stan, and this is still a thing? Really? SM beating out BH (not even Hybe) lol. Anywhere and everywhere we look, local or global stats, we know who is dominating and who is trying their bestest to catch up. Anyway, goodluck to all groups again this year. I feel like this will be a wild year - filled with lots of crying and whining too haha!! Enjoy!
-
I guess after all the whining and mockery, this really shows why Butter won SOTY noh? Because it was really THAT well received over there. Lol even Dynamite placed #2.
Congrats to everyone that made it on the list this year. Always fascinating to see these updates yearly, having been in kpop for a decade now.
-
it's a 100% judge vote based on the impact of a song, the production, the promotion etc....
I see ..thanks
-
Is record of the year soty? I thought iu won ?
-
Congrats!! :) ..what was the criteria for this daesang?
-
U spilled! The hypocrisy from the kpop community has been incredible throughout the years . it's also funny ngl🤣
Lol they have seem to developed amnesia now. They pretend to not remember any of that. And armys are of course the evilest beings for even mentioning "the past". Things have turned out quite fascinating the last few years, noh? And the fact that "top social artist" and "kpop" categories have been slowly removed from these foreign award shows says alot.
