lol it has been interesting seeing the changes in the kpop industry and the fandoms in the 10 yrs I have been into kpop.. after the huge mockery of THE iconic paper award and talk of western validation, here we all are, with these fandoms, their faves and their companies gunning for that coveted grammy.

It went from "no thanks, my faves are happy thriving in their home country".. to asking around for strategies on how to get that BB Top Social Artist award.. to aspiring for a #1 for BB200 then Hot100.. to now hoping for a grammy nom! In just the span of 4 years lol. Goodluck then!

I can still clearly remember how 2017 went down ..and look where we all are now!!! and this (AOTY) even without an album out this year.. imagine how 2022 will go down!!

ahh the good old days with kpoppies ..throughout the years though, I have learned to just sit back and watch karma do its magic ..over and over again. BTS and ARMYS always have the last laugh. I mean, look at what happened to the entire industry- it has truly shifted. Who would've thought. Now them and their faves are all scrambling trying to catch up

Yea, OP was mistaken.. I was able to watch BTS in Gochoek way back in 2017 lol. They never went back coz it can't accomodate the huge fandom anymore.

Hmm.. maybe it's just the current music not appealing to the former/new fans and the public? Because, in my fandom, people have jobs and still find time to support the group. I mean, as a doctor, I still find time to fangirl and enjoy events with others in the fandom (and these are professionals with family/kids) . It's not really an issue. for us. But then again, we also have to take into consideration that this is kpop and alot of these fans can be fickle and often move on to the next new shiny thing. Goodluck to the girls tho! Who knows, things can change right?

That was my dream for them before (never in my wildest dreams did I imagine a kpop group becoming the biggest act in the world) ..but honestly didn't like the direction their songs went and left the fandom a few years ago (my opinion of course). Felt the same with kpop too. But goodluck to them and their fans.

was thinking the boys will probably perform live as they will definitely be in NYC around that time for UNGA and other possible events. Either way, so excited to see them again perform and do activities. I just wish for everyone's safety, especially with the current surge again.

Armys are not surprised by this noh? We have been saying this but I guess with all the mediaplay that has been happening, one would think kpop as a whole have grown so much there. Add to the fact that the kpop community has been pushing this agenda as well. Some stans even have been saying their faves have the GP versus BTS who only have armys.

I have been in kpop for 10yrs now and it has been fascinating to see how things have evolved and turned out.

Lol as an army, I didn't know either. Thought all those other platforms basically had the same services as weverse. My friend didn't want to pay either so she'd just wait on twitter for updates. One of her friends have been spending alot coz she's a multi and alot of bias and bias wreckers lol. But yea, as long as there are fans okay with those systems and willing to pay, go ahead then. We all enjoy content differently :)

Lol I actually only know weverse because of BTS. Was here when they transitioned from Vlive (well, mostly). It's a fun platform where artists and fans can post and interact. Other content such as variety shows, concerts, MVs etc are also posted there and almost everything is free.

An irl recently became a kpop fan and I realized that apparently for the other platforms, fans have to pay to become a member and leave posts or get to see posts from their faves. And they have to pay monthly too, per artist. So if for a group you stan like all 5 members, then you have to pay to be updated for all 5 members (and what more for multis lol). I guess with this setup, the artists would also be somehow obligated to post on there knowing the fans are paying to see/read them? Interesting.

Interesting thread. "most downplayed boy group" .. especially since there was a time when one of those fandoms were quite in everyone's faces. other fandoms warned them about how a boygroup's life cycle happened but I guess it's hard to think about that when your faves are seemingly thriving. And eventually, like their predecessors , they started blaming the company (which I guess is valid)

Goodluck to both fandoms then! Support your faves as much as you can. In this industry, you are the most important to them.

As a kpop fan for 10 years, it is interesting to see what people thought was greatly hyped in the community (or in the fandoms) as opposed to the hype certain comebacks really generated.

Hmm.. I feel like BTS will be releasing an album before Grammy deadline and right in time for the VMAs or the AMAs. And they have been secretive about it too. Though there have been different publications saying an album release in the 3rd quarter. We shall see.

I do wish for a normal album release, so we can gauge just how much this fandom has really grown. And I'm quite excited for it!! I feel like they will be releasing the album with a korean single quite different from this year's earlier releases

Truth is, many other kpop acts have to resigned to become second act to achieve something because BTS did it first. In 2018.

lol don't they already do that on here though? threads/charts that don't count BTS already ..the race for #2. and yet still mock and diss bts when they can.

I have been an army for quite some time to expect these kinds of reactions, especially now that they have really blown up. I even expected it from this forum lol (like clockwork). All the discussion about vocal processing, english music (tho people have no problem with the japan releases), their "old sound" etc. I purposely went on here later to check on the (expected discussions) ..to all this, as what OP said, it is okay to like or dislike their releases if you say it with respect. the bashing and thinkpieces that i've seen are quite too much though- and interesting enough, alot from kpoppies and also multis.

for me though, i love the boys and their music and the direction that they are taking. though i don't love all their songs equally, i trust them and so far have not been disappointed. for the armys and others who enjoy this release, enjoy it to the fullest and let go of the negativity. as the song says, you don't need permission to dance! i'm just happy to add a new, fun, sweet,, bop to my bts playlists

the "closet fans" will have something to look forward to now, i guess, lol! .. who knows, if this collab pushes through, they might even say PTD >>> vs coldplay collab

Excited to see how BTS will grow again this year, given that they still haven't released an album. Congrats on the releases so far!
