Do you mean as an artist or as a Kardashian type celeb?

Jungkook has what it takes, the vocals, the dancing skills, the songwriting , the charisma. He could absolutely be in the same league with Shawn Mendes or Bieber. He already has a huge fanbase AND he is the person anyone in GP know as the representative of kpop. Lets not forget how any local talking about kpop was "lets stan Jungkook" during this summer. A b-side he produced, not even a solo, outcharted BPs latest title track of Hot100.

What would Lisa even do other than be a social media celeb? Shes a rapper and she cant possibly compete with the likes of Nicki, Cardi, Meghan etc

I completely agree with this, and I actually debated this with the original maker of this index. Longevity deserves to be highly rewarded.

Yeah. I remember I blocked them after they refused to see sense and ended up throwing around some bizarre insults.

Thats why I didnt even see this thread on AKP, I might have argued about this more if I knew it was still ongoing.

Add a bit of rambling on random topic to intro and you could apply to Pitchfork.

I have pretty much the same views.

I would rate Fly To My Room higher, it has very pretty melodies, Tae and Jimins voices are a very nice contrast and I like the contrast between the bright music and not as bright lyrics.

Dynamite would get 9/10 from me, one point deducted for lyrics. Its incredibly catchy, summery, positive song that balances the music very well. Its hard to write a song that is memorable and at the same time does not get stale even after repeated listens. Musically its a perfect pop song.

Overall 9/10 (I reserve 10 for perfection only, no kpop album would get it)

Which stats are duplicated (besides CAK and PAK)?

Including both Melon and Gaon stats is unnecessary in my opinion. It would be enough to have only Gaon. The Gaon SOTY is also duplicating Gaon stats and giving even more weight to short term topping of charts (since you cant have several months).

I think overall it overweighs short term hype, every metrics used is geared towards it. There is basically no metric that gives points for longevity. I think overall ranks on yearly chart or overall streams/downloads # is a better measure than "weeks to some milestone" or heavily weighted weekly stats. Yearly stats also make the songs more comparable, it removes some of the impact of how much competition the song had etc. And the impact of whether song was released early or late in the years doesnt really matter, since a hit song should chart for several years on yearly chart.

I think the problem with Gallup is having a methodology which works over the years and seems consistent. They just changed how they display the results and now we can't see what 40+ voted in terms of most idols songs so it's hard to compare with previous years. There is also the recency bias (songs close to the time the polls are taken are advantaged) and the rivality issues (If a song does not have real rivals, it will take a larger percentage than if they would release the song in a bigger year). But I agree that Gallup is important regarding national hits and it's very good to show us the national hits in a small timeframe. National hits isn't just digitals, they are supposed to reach a broader audience than usual and Gallup polls are the best way to show it. For this year, Gallup polls showed us very clearly which are the national hits.

So yeah I think Gallup should be included as bonuses, and the balance needs to be achieved carefully.

How have they changed methodology? Ive never heard of this.

Its not necessary to have top 40 idol songs, its enough to use the top 10 songs overall, a real national hit would rank there and more than one year. The recency bias is not valid in my opinion, since a true huge hit will have enough longevity to overcome it.

Because BH is interested in making money, not in getting clout from luxury brands. Luxury brands probably dont pay much if anything but free products to kpop idols, since it would not make any business sense. Their customers are not kpop stans, the amount of kpop stans who would buy luxury brands products because their fave is endorsing them is miniscule.

BTS is rich enugh that they dont need to tie themselves down to one brand for some scraps.

The money is in big mass market brands and the most non-monetary benefit is in global campaigns using groups music, which gives it exposure.

The methodology of this is still bad.

It duplicates stats which are correlated and are reflecting the same underlying features. Important stats like Gallup ranking are missing. It overweights viral hits which die down quickly and downweights longevity too much. And so on. But we already went through this last time.

(I know this is not your methodology, so nothing personal).

It makes sense if they see a lot of army aren't gonna buy an expensive version. They aren't gonna let this money untapped.

But they would've made much more money if they did this in the first place. Now the hype and all of it is gone. BH got greedy and they should think twice next time in terms of albums versions.

I think its incredibly dumb of them to put out the standard now, when the hype had died down and when a portion of armys are feeling quite bitter about the standard version. If they want it to sell better, they should add something extra to create more hype and positive feelings.

And its called "Essential", not "Standard", but who knows what BH means by it.

And there will be Grammys, where they could promote something.

    Maybe its just wishful thinking.
