It seems like that's one of, if not the most, popular genre in c-ent and I don't really get it? To a lesser extent, this is true for K-ent too but I just don't get the cultural fixation of much older periods to that magnitude

I don't under any circumstances want it to come off like I'm defending BBC but yeah, Loona definitely got fucked over by both sides.

Having a member that can single-handedly not only decide her schedules but force the schedules of 11 others to change is a disaster in the making and it showed.

Even if Chuu made her schedule perfectly considering Loona and BBC made Loona's considering Chuu (which neither fully did), any unexpected factor like a 3rd party delay will create a mess. And it DID.

Again, the fault is 98% on BBC for letting the situation get this far and for how they've handled everything since then but even under the best management, had Chuus contract not been set to end dec 2022 and gone on the full length like the rest of Loona, she would have inevitably been kicked out either way.

Blackpink could have been a HUUUUUUGE group. I was quite interested in them during their debut. But then I noticed it was all image and no substance. YG barely gives them songs to release. They play this badass bitch image to the max. And the mediaplay and their obsessed fans are the only thing that keeps them afloat IMO. "wow, they have 200385848 billion streams wow much famous" yeah but if you ask around about them only kpop fans will recognize them, and the streams are not about their popularity by having their hard-core streaming the same song over and over.

As always, fans ruin something that could have been great and of course companies don't care as long as they get sales.

I wish they could end because some of them, like Rose, have GREAT potential but has to play the badass bitch image to the core. She has a great distinctive voice and if she went down the indie singer route she'd be much more interesting.

NewJeans, on the other hand, has debuted with a sound and an image that has been used before but not for a long time, which gave a breathe of fresh air to the kpop scene. They portray nothing but what's adequate to their age - not girly songs or wannabe badass teenagers. Of course all of this is planned and marketed, but it feels natural. Their success so far hasn't come from obsessed stans but their music quality. It's drawing in teens their age and also my generation that feels nostalgic to those days. So lots of people have been checking them out.

No American news media will report them of course, because they're not "fierce badass bitches" that somehow America just seems to love. And that's ok.
