japan is the closest I think

after that china is a gamble and most of the SE asian countries would have to try really hard to generate enough hype.

None of the -stans would work lol it would be a REAL gamble lol

it would stand as a rule of thumb for the biggest gdp and closest in modern culture to korea.

Your own country. PPop is currently rising so I'm happy with it so far. I don't want it to be as big as KPop or it might catch some of the toxicity.

Philippine Pop. The term is actually OPM (Original Pilipino Music) but it's an offshoot modeled after KPop.
