If I think about it, YNWA, TMBMOL PT1/PT2, young forever all also only had 2 versions in the past. I guess the 4 versions started with their LY series ( someone correct me if I am wrong)

I think it started with Wings? But I sold all my albums aside from my signed so I can't go look

I don't think those examples point decidedly toward to a trend since both of BE and Butter were released during the pandemic, but I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand either. Whatever the case is, I'll be fine with it. I know a lot of the argument is about more versions producing better numbers, but I really don't think BTS have anything to prove here. We know they are sure bets to be top sellers and with the momentum they have and the fandom still growing, their numbers won't be anything less than stellar.

I realized before Wings, they also only released 2 versions or less. BTS don’t have to prove anything at this stage, haha it was just my observation

Tbf 4+ versions only really became a thing midway through 3rd gen. Before that one or two versions is what most groups had. So the pre wings album versions isn’t really an indicator since it was the same with most in Kpop at the time
But yes bts have nothing. They could do one version and still outsell everyone
