I try to be more like the first.
I listened to an interesting podcast the other day that explored people's regrets in life, and the researcher found that, by far and away, the biggest regrets people have are around the opportunities they don't take. If you try and it goes badly, you can usually salvage something even if it's a learning opportunity, but it's the things you don't go to, the people you don't reach out to, the connections you don't maintain, etc. that will haunt you later.
