I hate pretty privilege in kpop

  • and so? why will u spend on someone ugly when u can get music for free? stage presence also requires some level of attractiveness.

  • I've no one specific in my mind. Most popular members of 4th gen are all visuals.

so what? that’s kinda obvious. most people are attractive to visuals. That’s why bp and bts are famous, it’s part of it- talent, charm, visuals

  • kpop has literally always been about visuals. The day when ifans stop pretending otherwise is the day we will all reach true enlightenment.

No matter who the group is, visuals have always been the most popular while the most talented is usually among the least.

BTS? V and Jungkook have always been more popular than RM or Jhope or whoever.

EXO? Before the Chinese members all left we all know Kris, Luhan, and Tao used to run the game in that group. I don't think Baekhyun would have become the most popular in EXO had they still been around. And even then, after they left Chen is still the least popular.

Iz*One? Wonyoung, Minju, Sakura were the most popular in spite of being in groups with aces like Eunbi and Chaeyeon and Yena.

Itzy? It's Yuna and who is the least? Chaeryeon.

Redvelvet? It was Irene before her scandal.

Twice? All the members in Twice are sort of equally pretty so it's hard to say. Or rather, maybe it's even easier to say because they on a whole are a visual group and did not become as popular as they are because of their talent. They are probably the best example of how visuals have alway ran the game.

Of course you will have your exceptions to the rule, but overwhelming visuals have always been the main factor in Kpop. Why else would companies spend so much money of set and MV designs, fashion, make up, plastic surgery. Even having flashy choreo factors into it.

  • Why do international fans act so surprised about this? Kpop in general is superficial. Every time I see this being discussed I have to assume that you're just being bitter about a newcomer's popularity. ATP it shouldn't be shocking that visuals get hype.

this. the first thing i learned when i got into kpop was how superficial it was once i found out about the term visual.

  • Kpop idols are all abt visuals. Talent is just secondary.

  • there is nothing wrong with this because every aspect of industry needs to have visual appeal and not at some anons here saying "kpop is supercial" look at hollywood even in the decades ago everyone needs to be beautiful plus the fact you say their looks are boring already tells a lot about your point which is completely hilarious because you too are judgin' them no one here should act all high and all we all have biases the entire world have biases not just kpop some of you need to leave this bubble
