In Korea have 3rd gen groups shown more longevity than 2nd gen charting/ gp wise?

  • Charting 2 gen lasted much longer and with a much wider set of groups.

Snsd, 2NE1, Sistar, WG, T-ara, Apink, Girls Day etc all managed to chart high for few years (SNSD 10th anniversary was a flop by their standards but they outcharted all JYP ggs in the last few years). Nowadays it’s mainly BP and occasionally Red Velvet and that’s it. 2 gen ggs were clearly better at charting.

Bgs excluding BTS who are in another league it’s arguably not that better or worse because in 2 Gen only a a few bgs like Suju, Shinee, 2pm, 2am etc could chart decently and the main one was BigBang and for a while Beast. in 3 gen it’s only been BTS and previous Exo. everyone else got like 1 or 2 hits here and there same as 2 gen.

Public, 2 gen very easily. They charted better overall + they appeared much more frequently on tv. Some idols even got their own shows like SNSD, Suju, Shinee etc. 3 gen barely even on tv, mainly the occasional running man and knowing bros.

  • have they? 2nd gen bgs after military chart better than alot of them

  • 2 gen has better longevity 3 gen biggest act is bts and bts sure will keep 1 even on the 4 gen

  • No. 3rd gen is weak in Korea. The groups are lucky bts gave them a boost in international level

  • 3rd Gen sucks overall. Except for BTS and the ggs there aren’t any digimons. At least in 2nd Gen we had more groups charting especially for the bgs.
