My Asexual Ring

  • Hello! It finally came, I'm so happy! I think it's well known enough by this point that I am, in fact, asexual. Anyway, not that long ago, I decided to order an asexual ring to celebrate and because why not? In case anyone here does not know what one is, I'll explain. It is an all back or predominantly black ring worn by asexuals on their right-hand middle finger. I forget the reasoning behind why it is the right hand, but I think there is one. I'll look into that. The ring is actually worn on the middle finger for a specific reason, believe it or not. Here's a picture I found that illustrates why:

    Symbolism Of Finger Rings

Asexuality is a part of my individuality and personal identity (to me at least, but probably to many other asexuals as well), so that is why it goes specifically on that finger. The color black specifically is so people can recognize fellow asexuals better and because why not? It's also one of the ace colors (along with white, grey and purple), so I think that's why too. Anyway, I was looking online for a mostly back ring that was affordable and I would love and could not find one. So, then I looked for black and purple rings that were still affordable and still could not find any.

Right before I was about to give up, I decided to try and find any ring that I love and thought I could use nail polish to paint it black. Happy with that solution, I looked online until I found the perfect ring and ordered it. It suited my personality (girly), was cheap and was silver and purple. I figured I could paint the silver ring band to be black and leave the purple flower gems purple, since purple is also another ace color and that way I could have even more ace colors present on my ring. While I waited for my ring to ship, I bought some nail polish supplies. I even found a black nail polish with some tiny bits of glitter in it, so obviously I chose that option.

When I got my ring, I painted it with several coats of nail polish, only to realize I put it on sloppily and it turned out bad, so I had to use my nail polish remover (thankfully I was smart enough to get that as well, in case I messed up). Once I was back to square one, I repainted it and did a much better job. Now, I have my finished ring! I really love wearing it because it is so me, while representing who I am as well. I kept some parts around the flower silver because it's close to grey and that can match the grey in the flag not because I was too lazy to. Now, time for what you've all been waiting for: the ring reveal! Here are some pictures. Sorry for the inconsistent lighting in mine, that what you get when you take pictures in the same lighting at different angles. Also, the black nail polish is really shiny and sparkly, but it doesn't show up well in the picture, sorry about that. Also also, low quality image because I'm lazy and it's not the end of the world to me.

  • aww you did a great job on it and purple and black together is really nice! It looks great!

  • Of course! i suggest maybe a clearcoat over the black nailpolish (also a nailpolish if i remember) just so the black paint won't chip off or anything, if you haven't thought of that!

That's a great idea. I was smart enough to do that thankfully. I put on three layers of the black nail polish on very thinly because it didn't want it to be lumpy or rough and in between each coat of black nail polish, as well as for the topcoat, I have some clear nail polish sandwiched between to help it last longer. I also still have all my nail polish supplies and remover in case it does mess up and I want to touch it back up again. Have a great day/night!

  • Awww it looks so pretty!! I didn't know asexuality rings exist, I may get one for myself now, as I'm asexual myself. It's good you are able to celebrate a part of yourself and I'm so happy for you, Channie :lover3:

Thank you! Not all asexuals know they exist so, you aren't alone in knowing, but now you know! That's so cool! I can't wait to see it once you get it (if you want to show me that is). It really is and thank you so much!
