    OT4 BLINKS OR JAIL

  • It basically suggest the authoritarian government may have been justified in thier capture, torture and murder of students with the excuse they used that there were students who were working as spies for communism.

The ML is a NK spy (confirmed from the Korean character outlines) and Jisoos character is named after a real life woman who was a student at the time (STILL ALIVE BTW) who was apart of the protests for democracy (even after the renaming the name is very similar) and they fall in love. The character Jisoos is named after is very famous, she married another protester and he was framed as a communist spy and later died in prison of malnourishment. And all this during 1987 where people were literally being dragged off the streets (and reporters were unable to report it), accused of being spies, subjected to torture, and forced to confess to help the regime control the country and keep the 'we are looking for communist spies' narrative alive. This drama puts forward the idea that there were actual spies around which approves of the narrative rightwingers have been trying to push of this history in an attempt to justify the atrocities done and help them get back into power.

Majorly problematic because an important election is coming up, the current president can't run again and the leftovers from the authoritarian gov who did all of the above are running and thanks to the anti feminism thing managed to recruit a load of young men and this drama is helping them rewrite history to make the NSA not look so bad, people are worried if this drama is broadcast it will give clout to the propaganda they tried to spread way back when and help them win the election and throw Korea back into the hands of said authoritarians who will do the same thing as before but with the pretence of democracy.

Quite a few scenes are taken from real stories and the drama is using the names of many real people involved in the protest and fight for democracy, including the sauna one which is based on a story of a guy who was arrested in a Sauna, but what actually happened is they beat him so bad he got Parkinson's disease. Also JTBC is owned by a right wing newspaper and the scriptwriter is also a right wing nut. And all this went down in 1987 so everyone over 50 witness it first hand.

Oh yeah, and some dumb blinks are supporting the right wing accounts because they are supporting Jisoo, plus she chose this drama....so as you can imagine people are mad but mostly about the history issues, but blinks going crazy has turned the gun onto jisoo and her members and now articles are being written up about it.
