The pattern for “IT girl” keeps changing and we ifans are always behind

  • in 2nd gen the IT girl was Suzy but other popular female idols were Yoona and there’s Krystal / Sulli and Jiyeon who had their moment . But Suzy was rlly THE IT girl and Yoona behind her. Look at them

so naturally, start of gen 3 people expected the next IT girl to be a visual and classic pretty kpop girl following Suzy and Yoona’s vibe. I was there for BP debut and at the very beginning Jisoo was speculated to be a possible IT girl. Tzuyu and Sana also were speculated, and also Irene. All 4 are visuals ( technically 3 but Sana is like Twice 2nd visual ) and give off the same vibe

It ended up being Jennie . She’s beautiful too don’t get me wrong lol but she doesn’t have Yoona or Suzy vibe at all . also Hwasa had her IT girl moment although her popularity completely faded and she’s definitely a new thing in Kpop lol

so naturally … start of gen 4 we ifans assumed the next IT girl would follow Jennie’s vibes .

Yeji was named a next IT girl but Yuna is Korean’s fave out of Itzy and Ryujin is super popular internationally, dare I say the most popular female idol among ifans?

Everyone thought Karina would be the IT girl of Aespa but Winter beats her everywhere in East Asia.

The most popular female idols in Kr is Wonyoung and then Winter. JWY is popular with literally everyone especially girls her age meanwhile Winter is crazy popular with men but with women, not at all. JWY has the upper hand. She’s not a Jennie. Doesn’t have cat eyes or unique look to her and she’s the embodiment of korean standards in one person. I’d say she fits gen 2’s pattern way more than gen 3’s. Winter also fits gen 2 pattern wayyyy more, she’s not an unique looking beauty but a pretty, classic one.

  • So basically the pattern for it girls hasn't changed at all - Jennie and Hwasa (although her popularity only seemed to last for about two years) are just two glaring exceptions

It girl status has essentially just remained based on having visuals that perfectly match KBS and a "pure" warm personality...

  • The it girls of 4th gen are going to be based on visuals compared to 3rd gen that was based ofn charms that’s why Yuna is the most popular itzy member in Korea, Wonyoung is the most popular 4th gen idol and winter is beating Karina everywhere in terms of searches since winter is more classic beauty because contrary to what mys try to act like Karina is thoroughly worshipped , I was shocked to see there are quite a lot of people in Korea that hate that she looks like a snake especially men despite her having a big chest , she’s not that popular with men because of her snake like face, she doesn’t have the face the gp loves more of the the type women in their 10s -20s like an Instagrammer so she’s a trend for now

  • Wonyoung is kind of mix between unique and classic. I think she is starting to develop a unique look and less of a cute girl next door one. She is starting to get that cat eye shape too. Her face almost reminds me of a royale high character with the upturned eyes and super pouty lips. I think she is much more of a sulli or jun ji hyun type than a classic calm beauty like suzy, yoona or kim tae hee. I think that's why Korean wanted her for etude house instead of innisfree and why she fits Miu Miu so well.

This is… a whole lot of truth now that you mention it she’s way more of a Sulli than a Suzy

which is funny because back then those two kept compared
