I think the Macy’s day parade performance was Aespa’s jump-the-shark moment

It’s super hard to do performance in a freezing cold, in a foreign land. They are also very young and inexperienced. I think SM is too ambitious, and as usual, pushed his acts too soon instead of let them gradually grow.

But anyway, all publicity is good. People who saw them at least might feel curious and check them out. They’ll gain more fans at the end of the day.

I think the fact that Aespa debuted in an era with no live audiences has probably harmed their development as an act.

Performing is more than executing the moves and singing; it’s about serving powerful energy and getting the crowd hyped up. Even during their rookie stages, BTS for example were always serving charisma and lots of personality.

Aespa on the other hand, tend to just stare at the cameras and go through the motions. I dunno if they are coached to be that way by SM (because it’s an issue I have with Red Velvet). Not saying they’re not talented, because they are. They just need more experience with live crowds and some seasoning.

So yeah, I wasn’t super impressed but they might not be ready to perform for foreign audiences at this stage.
